The winning Curraha/St Vincents U15 squad

St Vincents/Curraha completed a fantastic season when they claimed the division 5 league title with a comprehensive victory over Wolfe Tones on Thursday evening.

St Vincents/Curraha 4-12 Wolf Tones 2-5

Although the game was on a cold November night both teams served up some delightful football at an excellent GAA floodlight facility at Stamullen.

Wolf Tones got the better start; aided by the breeze they kicked two points in the opening five minutes. Then Vincents /Curraha settled into their stride with some excellent turnovers at the back from an outstanding David Corry who turned defence into attach time after time. Vincents/Curraha register their first score with a fine effort by Jack O Connor about seven minutes in.  This was followed up with a goal by  Conor Harford to put Vincent/Curraha in front for the first time, a lead they never relinquished. Further points followed from Jack Byrne, Hardford with the pick of the lot an effort from Eoghan Corry out on the right. This put Vincents/Curraha firmly in the driving seat mid way through the half. However, Wolf Tones responded adding a point and then they followed up with a three pointer to leave the half time score 1-3 to 2-5 in favour of Vincents/Curraha.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Tones again gaining the upper hand early on. They hit two unanswered points to leave just a goal between the sides. Once again Vincents/Curraha responded well with Jack Byrne leading the way this time with a fine point. This seemed to inspire Vincent/Curraha who were now dominating in almost all position on the pitch. Scores come from all angles with Leo Corry finding the net from close range. Jack Byrne followed up with a point to put Vincents/Curraha seven points in the clear. Then Jack O Connor rifled to the net about ten minutes from the end to put the contest beyond doubt. Further points followed from Harford and O Connor to complete the rout. In fairness to Tones they never gave up and their efforts were rewarded with a late goal. However, it was too little too late with victory going the Vincents/Curraha.

Although there were some excellent individual performances from the victors, this was an outstanding team performance. Vincents/Curraha worked really hard with some relentless running and when they gained possession they were able to find colleagues with some excellent hand and foot passing to create the openings. At the back David Corry , Andrew Moriarty and Conor Hardford were in total control, while Danny Tuite and Jack Byrne dominated the middle with Byrne contributing 1-3. Up front Jack o Connor was the main threat with Leo and Eoghan Corry also in outstanding form.
