JFC: five from five for Bective

August 24, 2015

Bective's Ciaran Breslin

Bective 0-19
Wolfe Tones 1-5

Bective rounded off group stages of the Junior Football Championship with victory over Wolfe Tones at a soaked Skryne on Sunday evening.

Jody Devine's side were already assured of a place in the quarter-finals before this game and victory ensured a perfect record of five wins from five.

There was little between the sides after a dogged opening but Bective finished the first half the stronger to go in seven points to the good (0-10 to 0-3). Ciaran Breslin scored three points against his former club but missed the clearest goalscoring chance with Sean Power bringing off a fine double save in the Tones goal.

Bective kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half, with seven different scorers from play overall over the hour, including five of the six starting forwards.

However there remains plenty to work on before the quarter-final clash with St Peter's Dunboyne, with a number of goal chances unconverted.

The game against Dunboyne will be a repeat of the JFC quarter-final of 2013, when the south Meath side came out on to after extra-time in a thriller. Dunboyne also reached the JFC final last year, only losing out to Cortown after a replay.

Bective: Shane Breslin; Dara Maguire, Jack Grant, Jarlath Brennan; Colin O'Rourke, Craig Roche (0-1), Kevin Brennan; Ciaran Reilly, Ciaran McConnell (0-1); Ciaran Breslin (0-3), Mark O'Brien (0-2), Paul McCabe; Paul Lyness (0-4), Brian Cantwell (0-1), Marty Mulhall (0-7, six frees).

Subs: Pauric McConnell, James Davis
