Ladies SFC: Boardsmill superior against under strength O'Mahonys

July 22, 2015

The Boardsmill squad that accounted for O'Mahonys.

Boardsmill 5-16 O Mahonys 0-5

It was unfortunate for an under strength O Mahonys side that Boardsmill chose this game to put on their best attacking performance of their championship campaign to date. Boardsmill, led by Aideen Guy were  in impressive form in front of goal and took nearly every opportunity that came their way. That said O'Mahonys battled gamely throughout and were well served by Aoibhin & Ailbhe Leahy, while Sarah Powderly, Samantha Monaghan and Kate Falahee  battled gamely all evening.

Boardsmill started quickly and had recorded 6 points through  Ciara Ashe 0.1, Susan Kealey 0.2 Laura Griffin 0.1 Edel Guy 0.1 and Laura Dempsey 0.1  before O Mahony's keeper Amanda Murtagh saved spectacularly from Dempsey to deny the Mill girls a dream start.  Samantha Monaghan  was winning a lot of ball at midfield and Aoibhin Leahy  soon replied for the Brews hill team before Kealey and Griffin added to the Boardsmill tally. Caoimhe Clynch scored an impressive point for the Navan girls on 20  minutes just before Kealey and Dempsey rattled the O Mahonys net to end the game as a contest. Ashe and Dempsey added further points while Monaghan and Leahy replied for the Navan girls . Boardsmill led 2.10 to 0.4 at the break.

The 2nd half  needed a strong start by O Mahonys but they were rocked by Kealeys second  goal which was followed by 3 fine points from the imperious Dempsey who looked to be back to her best .  Maura Hegarty has been gradually establishing herself as a first choice midfielder and capped a fine individual display with a quick fire goal and point with 14 minutes gone in the second period.

Boardsmill took the opportunity to empty their bench and sent on Katie Hackett , Dani O Sullivan Becky O Toole and Laura Garrigan for Laura Griffin Edel Guy Laura Bagnall and Amy Troy. Eimear Murray had taken over from Ana Ramirez at half time in the Boardsmill goal. Katie Hackett was very impressive , covering a lot of ground and linking play  throughout. Boardsmill lost Ciara Ashe to an unfortunate yellow but it didn't stop them adding a goal , Kealey's third and points from Dempsey and sub Dani O Sullivan while  Leahy  pointed a free in reply.

The game ended Boardsmill 5-16 O'Mahonys 0-5

Boardsmill will face tougher games ahead while O Mahonys didn't show what they were capable of on the night. The headlines  go to Kealey and Dempsey who scored an impressive 4-9 between them but much of the plaudits goes to Maura Hegarty who was terrific for the winners in the middle of the field. They were ably supported to Ciara Ashe  Edel  Guy and  Aideen Guy  while Katie Hackett must surely be pushing hard for a starting place next time out.
