FL Div 3: Dunderry still with a chance of promotion

Dunderry 1-10 Drumconrath 0-12

This Rd 10 Division 3 FL fixture saw both teams requiring a win to maintain a chance of promotion.

Liam Dempsey opened the scoring after 2 mins with a well taken point. Stephen Coogan scored free's in the 6th & 17th minutes but the visitors replied with 2 points. Bob Doherty was causing the back line of Drumconrath all kinds of problems with his strength and ability to hold up the ball, in the 25th min a move starting on the halfway line with Seamus Harte feeding Conor O'Shea overlapping down the touchline he sent in a high dangerous ball into the square where Doherty rose above his marker and fisted into the net. From the following restart Conor Farrell won the clearance and found Damien Clarke who knocked over a fine point, Coogan again pointed a free to leave the halftime score 1-5 to 0-5 to the home side the only negative from the 1st half display was Liam Dempsey having to leave the field with a suspected broken arm.

2nd half saw Liam Dempsey replaced by brother Eoghan and Alex Walsh come in for Martin Garry, Dunderry got the opening score of the 2nd half with a Clarke point in the 31st min. The visitors pulled back 2 points but in the 41st min Walsh who was causing problems with his pace received a cross field pass from Colm Harte and scored a superb point this was followed with a well taken point from Coogan. In the 45th min Aron Newman scored a point Drumconrath brought the scores back to within 2 points but in the 52nd minute Coogan fired over his 4th free of the game this score proved vital as Dunderry held out under severe pressure to win by the minimum.
