BFL6: narrow loss for Slane

July 03, 2015

Slane's Matt Tully

Slane 0-12
Kilmainham 1-10

Slane put up another competitive performance in this home fixture on Monday night against a Kilmainham outfit who are still battling at the medals side of Division 6.

Slane, again fielding a young side, were edged out in the experience stakes, probably holding most the possession but being wasteful in the last quarter of the field, giving away too much possession and not taking their scoring opportunities. In saying this, their first venture into B league football in many years is a very positive experience with some fine players are pulling on the jersey.

The half time scoreline was Slane 0-06 to Kilmainham's 1-05 with Slane allowing Kilmainham to run from far out the field to get a soft goal and this goal left Slane chasing the game for the rest of the evening. The second half saw an improvement in holding possession by the Slane men but the game was evenly matched and despite two occasions where the ball bobbled around in front of the Kilmainham goal, the opportunity was missed and Kilmainham came away with the ball. The game finished Slane 0-12 to Kilmainhams 1-10 after an exciting end to the game with the home team pushing forward to level but the lads in red and black held firm.
