St. Michaels 2-8, Dee Rangers 5-16

St. Michaels dreams of getting their intermediate championship campaign off to a winning start vanished in the first half as a strong and mobile Dee Rangers side ran riot racking up 5-16 in comfortable fashion in Meath Hill on Sunday evening.                                                                 The winners made the best of starts with a goal inside the first minute and things didn't get any better for St. Michaels as Dee Rangers had raced into a 3-4 to 0-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. Sharon Callaghan and Seona Lynch registered a point apiece for St. Michaels in the 8th and 10th minutes but the winners dominance continued unabated and they went in at the break holding a comfortable 3-12 to 0-2 lead.

Three points in the opening three minutes of the second half from Sinéad McCormack 0-2 and Marion Farrelly provided a glimmer of hope for the St. Michaels supporters but it was a false dawn as the winners had registered their fourth goal by the end of the third quarter, this time from the penalty spot. By this stage the winners were home and hosed and both sides had begun to empty their benches. Sinéad McCormack, Mary Clinton and Erin McGrane added a point apiece for St. Michaels and Marion Farrelly added two goals, one from a penalty in the 6th minute of added time. Áine Sheridan, Hayley Doyle, Sinéad McCormack and Seona Lynch played well for St. Michaels and whether it was just nerves or the power and speed of their opponents or just a rare poor performance, St. Michaels just froze on Sunday evening and Dee Rangers seized the initiative.
