AFL4: Slane drop point in Kilbride

May 16, 2015

Slane's Eanna Mooney

Kilbride 3-4
Slane 1-10

A changed Slane team travelled to Kilbride on Wednesday evening and will be very disappointed to have not come away with 2 points after dominating the game for large periods.  The concession of goals at crucial times and 15 wides proved to be the Boynesiders downfall.

The first half was a very low scoring affair with both sides very wasteful in front of the posts.  The teams only managed three scores each in the opening half and it was the scoring of two goals that gave Kilbride a two point lead at the break.  Slane registered 1-2 during the first half, all coming from Alan Harding.

The quality of football improved in the second half but there was still a lot of errors throughout.  Slane continued to dominate proceedings and 2 points from Eanna Mooney and one from Matt Tully saw them regain the lead.  Slane then moved into a 3 point lead as Harding and Mooney added to their personal totals. Kilbride responded and got back within one point of Slane.  Gareth Kealy added his name to the score-sheet before Harding added a further two well taken points.  Slane were in complete control at this stage but the drama was not to end there as with the last play of the match a high ball into the Slane defence fell nicely to Kilbride and despite the diving efforts of the defenders, the ball ended up in the Slane net after a wicked double deflection.

Slane will be disappointed not to have come away with 2 points but this was not the blues best performance and they will be glad to maintain their unbeaten run before next weekends championship match.
