St Vincents/Curraha 2-20 Jenkinstown Gaels 3-8

St Vincents/Curraha claimed a semi final spot in the under 16 Division 4 league with a hard fought but deserved victory over Jenkinstown Gaels at Moynalvey on Tuesday evening. The first half was a close enough affair with little between the sides.

St Vincents/Curraha were first off the mark with Diarmuid Moriarty raising a white flag about three minutes in. Jenkinstown's responded with their midfield pair winning more than their share of possession around the middle third. They converted well also with some excellent long range points. St Vincents/Curraha kept  adding to their account  through Patrick McGill, Diarmuid Moriarty and Conor O Farrell who all kicked points as the game see-sawed from one side to the other.  Midway through the half the home side capitalised on poor defending and sloppy passing by St Vincents/Curraha and stormed through for two well taken goals. It took the visitors some time to respond to this set back, but eventually they managed to work the ball into the oppositions half where Nigel Hand restored some hope with a well taken point. Further points by Jack Byrne, Hand and Jack O Connor cut the deficit to three points by halftime leaving the score 0-8 to 2 -5 in favour of the Gaels.

The second half saw St Vincents/Curraha play with a lot more intensity and as a result the scores came in abundance. Within thirty seconds of the restart Patrick McGill found the net to level proceedings. The visitors then hit the front with McGill adding two points. The Gaels responded well and had two excellent goal chances. These were well saved by goalkeeper James Fox who was in excellent form. At the other end St Vincents/Curraha's Jack O Connor got in on the scoring act and kicked three unanswered points  with wing back Danny Tuite finishing a great move that he started by firing to the net to push the visitors nine points clear.  In the final few minutes St Vincents/Curraha's James Fox pulled off another excellent save on a shot that was net bound.  The Gaels didn't give up and eventually found a way past  for their third goal but St Vincents/Curraha  finished strong and added  further points one from Diarmuid Moriarty and two frees by Jack O Connor  to secure a comfortable enough win.
