IFC: Drumbaragh goals stun Syddan

April 27, 2015

Syddan's Stephen Dillon with Colm Carry Drumbaragh during the Meath IFC game at Simonstown.

DRUMBARAGH 3-10
SYDDAN 0-13

Syddan's hopes of going top of Group C nosedived when they conceded two goals in a four minute spell in the third quarter of this IFC clash at Simonstown.

Drumbaragh also added a point in that productive spell to open up a commanding 3-7 to 0-8 lead going into the final quarter.

It left Syddan with a mountain to climb and while they reduced the deficit to five points in the closing stages they never seriously threatened Drumbaragh's lead.

From the third minute, when Drumbaragh centre back William Carry drove forward to find the net Syddan were always playing catch-up against sharper and hungrier opponents.

Kevin Traynor's fifth minute point was Syddan's only score from play in the opening half and Drumbaragh - who shot three wides late in the half - were full value for their 1-6 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Successive points from Daire Rowe and Gary Farrelly (both frees) and Paddy Farrelly reduced the deficit to two points by the 40th minute.

However the concession of those two goals from Thomas Carry and Darragh Mcnamara proved the knockout blow and Syddan relied mainly on placed balls from Gary Farrelly and Daire Rowe for scores after that.

SYDDAN - Ciaran Farrelly; Kevin Garland, Ronan Mooney, Mark Fedigan; Andrew Garland, Kevin Traynor 0-1, Ian Curran; Stephen Dillon, Sean Clare; Paddy Farrelly 0-2, Sean Malone, Cormac Rowe; Gary Farrelly 0-4f, James Farrelly, Daire Rowe 0-6f. Subs - Graham Garland for Malone (43), Thomas Dillon for J Farrelly (43).
