St Peter's, Dunboyne 2-13
Ratoath 1-13
Ratoath lost narrowly to Dunboyne in their first league match of the season after a close-fought affair in Dunboyne.
The first 15 minutes were tightly contested as Ratoath played well into the wind, recovering from an early goal to hit three points in a row to level the game, Podge and Sean O'Hanrahan grabbing the scores.
A drop in concentration though saw Dunboyne hit seven points in a row to take a 1-10 to 0-6 lead at half-time.
With Paul Kirwan and Neil O'Dowd impressive in defence and Jack McGowan driving the team on from midfield, Ratoath soon closed the gap to four.
A goal from Dunboyne's full-forward made it harder but with Ciaran O'Hanrahan and Kevin Laffey putting in the hard yards, Podge found the net as Ratoath hit 1-4 to leave just one score in it. The goal needed to grab a share of the spoils though never arrived.
Scorers for Ratoath: Podge O'Hanrahan 1-11 (6fs), Sean O'Hanrahan 0-1, Jack McGowan 0-1
