BFL5: Drumconrath inflict firist defeat on Carnaross

Drumconrath 4-13 Carnaross 1-12

Drumconrath got their B League ambitions back on track with this win over Carnaross on Saturday.
Drums got off to a good start with a fine Sean McMahon point which was followed by a neat point from Daniel Myles.

A Conor O'Halloran goal with seemed to be saved by the Carnaross goalie but ended up the net gave Drums a healthy lead. 

Carnaross got going and with Paul Donoghue and Cian Reilly showing well pointed 3 times on the bounce but Eoin Martin fired over after a good run. Two fine long distance frees from Alan McEvoy gave Drums confidence and when Paddy Carolan flicked to the net they where 8 points ahead. The teams added 2 more points each before the half ended with Tomas Conlon and Gavin Finnegan hitting the target for the home side as the half ended with Drumconrath leading 2-7 to 0-5.

Drumconrath started the 2nd half with the point of the game as Colm McEvoy pointed after 30 seconds. Carnaross now wind assisted played better in this half and had scored 3 points to leave just 2 goals between the sides. Finnegan and another fine long distance free from Alan McEvoy kept the Drums score board ticking over but  4 points without reply had only 4 points betwen the sides with 10 minutes left on the clock. 2-10 to 0-12.

Conlon got another lease of life and pointed twice as Sean McMahon added another. The game ended with 3 goals firstly Robert McEntaggert on his adult debut tapped in from close range and then Carnaross scored from a 13 metre free with a fine shot against a packed goal line. Conlon finished the scoring as he netted in injury time.

Cathal Dunne, Brendan Crosby, Alan McEvoy and Sean McMahon did well for Drumconrath.

Carnaross suffered their first B League loss with a ten point defeat against Drumconrath.

In a lively game, Drumconrath took an early lead which they would maintain throughout the game when they registered 1-2 in the opening eight minutes.

Paul Donoghue converted a free to open the Carnaross account but Drumconrath responded with two more points. Carnaross hit back with four points from Paul Donoghue, Cian O'Reilly (2) and Stephen Flattery to cut the margin to three points. Carnaross should have been closer but were guilty of spurning several chances and were punished when Drumconrath hit 1-2 in the closing two minutes to take a 2-7 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Drumconrath hit the first point of the second-half but Carnaross replied well with four points in a row from Cian O'Reilly (2), Stephen Flattery and Shane Casserly. However, the home side responded with four points of their own to restore their nine point advantage. Carnaross refused to give up and added three more points from Frank O'Reilly, Cian O'Reilly and Colm McDonagh but when Drumconrath found the net for a third time with five minutes remaining it put the result beyond doubt. Cian O'Reilly hit a fantastic goal from a free for Carnaross despite most of the Drumconrath team lined up in the goals but the home side responded once more with their fourth goal on the stroke of full time.
