Meath U21 Football Division 2 Quarter Final

October 28, 2014

Trim's James Cullen

Trim 4-10
Dunderry 2-8.

Trim U21 footballers advanced to the semi final of their championship when they defeated a resilient Dunderry team in a hard fought win at Bohermeen on Sunday last. Dunderry were first off the mark with a point in the sixth minute but The Trim lads some minutes later hit 1-2 to reach the tenth minute four points up. The points came from Sean Fitzgerald and a James Toher free. The goal was well worked when Sean Firzgerald sprinted forward on a solo run from his back line and hit a long pass into the right corner to Eoin O'Connor who in turn passed across the square to the waiting James Cullen who made no mistake in finding the net. Dunderry were unphased and pulled themselves back into the game with 1-2 of their own around the middle of the half to forge ahead by one point. Both sides then swapped points at the twenty minute mark with Robert Bourke landing the point from a free. The Trim lads finished off the half the stronger when they hit 1-2 in the final five minutes. The point came from the boot of Sean Fitzgerald who received a quick pass from James Andrews after he was fouled advancing along the left wing.  The goal was cracked home by Ciaran O'Rourke who got on the end of a sweeping Trim move. Half time score Trim 2-4, Dunderry 1-4.

The second half was only on two minutes when Dunderry had the ball in the back of the Trim net and with the game now at 'even steven' predicting the winner was difficult. Dunderry were controlling the middle of the field and bore the fruit of this advantage when they hit three points to Trims two to reach the ten minute mark one point up. The Red's points came from a Robert Bourke free and a James Cullen point from play. His point was gem. It started off with corner back Colm McGrath fielding a high ball in his own square and worked it out to Sean Fitzgerald in the middle of the field. He moved it on the Meath minor star Cullen who turned his marker and fisted over the point advancing in from the left corner.  Dunderry, not to be undone drew level again with a point in the seventeenth minute.  The game was poised on a knife edge but two minutes later Luke Moran won the ball in the middle of the field and advanced forward firing a pass to Eoin O'Connor who in turn found the roving Sean Fitzgerald in front of goal and he duly rattled the Dunderry net. Eoin O'Connor found the net three minutes later to put his Trim side six points ahead. From then to the end of the game the Red's landed two more points form a James Toher penalty and a fisted point from Eoin O'Connor to leave the final score at 4-10 to 2-8.
