U18 Camogie: Kilmessan claim the points

Kilmessan's Kelly Gorman

Kilmessan 5-5 Boardsmill/Killyon 3-3

Wth five of their Leinster winning side from the previous day including three starters Kilmessan claimed the points in their second round match against an amalgamated Biardsmill/Killyon squad. Despite having played the previous day and celebrating the night before, the senior stars of Megan Thynne, Nadine Doyle and Kelly Gorman were instrumental in their sides victory, particularly Gorman who was deployed in the full forward line on her own at times having to face three markers.

She scored an impressive 2-2 from play and could have made it more were it not for the heroics of the Boardsmill keeper. Kilmessan fielding with only 13players made better use of their possession throughout the game and With Lauren Gorman supplying quality ball into her cousin Kelly, they capitalised with Kelly scoring 1-1 in the opening half, Kilmessan's other goal coming from half forward Aine Brady.

Down the other end Grace Coleman and Rhiannon Hoey were causing problems from the Kilmessan defence and Coleman was unlucky when she broke onto a loose ball and fired over instead of claiming a goal. She did claim one however after a scrappy goalmouth scramble was kicked to the net. At the break Kikmessan led by 4points.

Playing with the wind in the second half Kilmessan had the majority of possession but couldn't convert it to scorers and when Boardsmill claimed 2 goals, things started to look ominous for Kilmessan and all of a sudden the two player deficit.

Looked to be taking it's toll as legs started to tire, however Kilmessan didn't panic and after a fortunate Laura O'neill long range free ended up in the back if the net A recharged Kilmessan finished with 2 goals from the Gorman cousins Kelly and Lauren, the latter probably the best score of the match, an overhead strike doubled to the net after a Doyle cross field free was sent to the edge of the square. This was an excellent display from Kilmessan who now face their last match against Drumree, where a win would secure a place in the semi-final.
