Crimmins the Dunshaughlin hero

October 14, 2002
Dunshaughlin 3-7 Blackhall Gaels 1-10 Dunshaughlin are through to a championship semi-final against Seneschalstown after beating Blackhall Gaels 3-7 to 1-10 in their controversial on-off quarter-final at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday 13th October. Enough has been said about the Anthony Moyles incident and on Sunday it was back to football matters at last, when David Crimmins fired home a hat-trick to inspire Dunshaughlin to victory. It was tight during the opening exchanges until Crimmins scored his first goal after 16 minutes. Dunshaughlin played the better football for the remainder of the half and went in 1-5 to 0-2 ahead at the interval. Three minutes into the second half Crimmins found the net again after being put through by Ray Moloney. Blackhall could have folded but instead they dominated the next ten minutes, scoring six points without reply. However Crimmins popped up to torment Blackhall once more with his third goal and Dunshaughlin looked to have halted their challenge. Moyles netted a late strike to give his team a slight chance but the reigning champions held on and will be happy to have left Blackhall and the entire Moyles incident behind them.
