U21FC: Rathkenny advance for first time in five years

Rathkenny advanced to the next round of the U21B Championship following an eight point win against Clonard last Sunday, October 12th in Bective - their first victory in the grade in five years

Despite an early Caolach Halligan point in the opening minute, it took Rathkenny some time to get into the game as Clonard sent over five scores in the opening seven minutes. Stephen Crosbie got Rathkenny going with a point on ten minutes and although Clonard finished the half with a total of eight points, Rathkenny left just the minimum between the sides at the break with further scores from Christy Meade, Jack Gore and Sean Mongey.

Rathkenny got three early second half scores through Caolach Halligan, Keith Timmons and Sean Mongey and pushed on from there. They managed to restrict Clonard to 1-3 in the half while adding a further 2-6 to their 3 early scores. The goals coming from Caolach Halligan and Sean Mongey; while Mongey added three points with a point each for Halligan, Robert Garry and Jack Gore. Rathkenny now face Clann Na nGael in the quarter final.
