Under 14s beat Down
August 06, 2004
In the Tuft cup competition Meath had to graft very hard against a spirited Down team.
Down started far the better and were disappointed to be two points for the worse at the half way mark. The Meath defence were under pressure but held firm and in particular, Mark Battersby and Colm "Jap" Mc Loughlin, helped contain Down's attack.
The second half remained a tight affair until the final quater. The Meath forwards who had been well marshalled by a solid Down defence hit a purple patch and Meath were rewarded with a 4 - 12 to 2-4 result. The result belies the tough, close encounter this game was.
In the shield competition Down had to field without a full squad and Meath took full advantage controlling the game from start to finish running out comfortable winners.
