U17: Two goal victory for Bru na Boinne

August 19, 2014

Slane's Matt Tully

Bru Na Boinne 3-14
Ratoath 1-14

Division 4 of the U17 league once again served up a highly entertaining match on Sunday night. Bru had had an exciting drawn game with Senchalstown the previous week and were very aware that Ratoath had lost by a single point to Senchalstown so they were always going to serve up stiff competition. Bru were first off the mark with Matt Tully getting their first score which was immediately followed by a second point from Podge McGowan. Ratoath then settled and got their own first point and sent out a strong message when after a prolonged attacking spell, they hit the Bru net with a low dipping drive that deceived the Bru backs and keeper. Bru then tried to muster their own response, with Podge Mc Gowan playing at full forward being terribly unlucky with two shots cannoning off the crossbar. Daniel Forde managed to get onto the latter rebound and finished off calmly to the net. Mc Gowan added a further 1-01 in this half with Matt Tully and Eanna Mooney bring the Bru first half Tally to 2-07 to Ratoath's 1-06.

Ratoath started the second half in determined fashion and managed five unanswered points, taking the lead 10 minutes into the second half. This seemed to spur the Bru lads into action once again. Podge Mc Gowan moved to the forty and Daniel Forde went in on the square with a prompt return of 1-03 from Forde over the next ten minutes . Ratoath continued to battle and added a further three points before the final whistle and battled valiantly towards the end as they pushed for a goal to bring them back into the game. Pat Nulty, McGowan and Andrew Everard added the four remaining scores for Bru, to leave the final score at Bru 3-14, Ratoath 1-14. Eoin Gibbs had a huge game in defence and must be applauded coming straight from a 7 hour flight from the US and he was best supported in defence by Gavin Carolan and Andy Everard. Eanna Mooney and Pat Nulty were also impressive at midfield and they worked well with Darren Berrill in goals who's kicking out was superb. Podge Mc Gowan was reliable as ever with a personal tally of 1-05 (1-03 from play) and Daniel Forde and Matt Tully also had their shooting boots with them on the night.
