Cavan had already qualified to play Westmeath in the final (Sunday, 15 August) and both sides took the opportunity to use fringe players.
Both teams certainly gave their all in a very entertaining game that saw Cavan get the equalising goal in the 9th minute of injury time. Cavan s Martin McKiernan opened the scoring with a point and Sean Keating responded for Meath with a point from a free.
Cavan got another point before Meath took the lead with points from Sean Keating and Stephen Sheppard. Cavan got an equaliser and quickly followed by an Enda McHugh point and a Michael Curran goal. Points from Sean Keating and Eoin Reilly reduced the arrears to two points. However Cavan added a further 4 points to Meath s 2 points before the break.

Cavan stretched their lead straight away with another point, but then Meath seemed to be getting the upper hand and had scores from Colm Carry (a point), a Stephen Sheppard goal to make the sides level again. Stephen Sheppard s point put Meath ahead and Sean Keating extended the lead further.
Cavan pulled one point back before Sean Keating got another point, which was followed by a gavin Butler gaol and Colm McGearty point. In injury time Cavan threw everything at Meath and added 3 points before the got the equaliser in the dying seconds of the match.
