BFL6: One-pont win for Ratoath

July 29, 2014
B League Division 6 Round 7

Ráth Tó 1-14
St Mary's Donore 2-10

Ratoath's Junior D footballers managed to hold on to a 1 point victory in this evenly contested clash played in perfect conditions in Brownstown last night. It was St Mary's who made the better start and with the benefit of an 11th minute goal raced into a 5 point lead( 1-3 to 0-1 ).After that the home side began to assert themselves and points from Colm Kelly,Coman Conemy and Turlough O'Neill put their side into the lead which they took into the half time break(0-7 to 1-3). It was noticeable though that the visitors are very wayward in their shooting and their 12 wides in the opening half alone would prove costly to their chances at the finish.

The second half began with both sides registering 2 points each as St Mary's rediscovered their scoring touch . Enda Cosgrove's charges were then given a massive boost with a goal in the 14th minute from substitute ,Lorcan Grall. The opposition though continued to press and despite Ratoath replying each time they got a score the match was still very much up for grabs as the game entered it's final minutes. It was then the referee awarded a penalty to St Mary's for a foot block , that was dispatched to the net leaving the bare minimum between the sides. Both sides missed opportunities as neither could add to the scoreline as the full time whistle blew. Best for Ratoath were Colm kelly, Turlough O'Neill,Dermot Kilreavy,Laurence Halpin and,Len Browne
