Camogie: Blackhall lose to neighbours

July 27, 2014
Blackhall Gaels 2-11
Dunboyne 3-13

After a long break the Camogie championship is back for Blackhall, who took on neighbours Dunboyne last night (Tuesday 22nd).

The Blackhall team lined out with many changes from their last game. The team itself appeared rusty at the start and Dunboyne took advantage with a few points and an early goal. When Blackhall did attack they were strong on the ball and won several frees. Jane Dolan was on form on the night and scored some superb frees around the pitch. The injured Troy was in full forward and won nearly every ball that came into her, including a long-range pass by the young Siobhan Whitty which resulted in a hand-passed goal for the Blackhall team. The backs defended well, and the full back line, though being brought out, held firm. At half time Dunboyne led 3-6 to 1-7. The second half saw ever Blackhall player lift her game, especially the new pairing of Jane Burke and Amy Crosbie. They ruled the middle of the field throughout the game, which resulted in plenty of balls going into the forwards. Dunboyne piled on the pressure, forcing Aisling Keane to move out of corner back and into the middle where she chased her marker for the full 30mins. The rest of the backs kept tight on their players with Whitty again delivering quick and effective clearances into the forward line. Emily Mangan had a brilliant game with excellent puck-outs and clearances, as well as a superb penalty save. Indiscipline got the better of the girls towards the end with simple frees putting Dunboyne in the lead coming up to full time. The end result was Dunboyne 3-13 BHG 2-11. The girls may be disappointed with last night's loss but they can now look forward to Monday, August 4th, when they take on Killyon in the next round. The team performance in the second half showed the possibilities for this Camogie team and the girls should be proud of the rally they made.
