Davis Cup Final

July 25, 2014

Killyon take on Trim in the Davis Cup final.
Kildalkey will host the 2014 Brendan Davis Cup Final on Saturday evening next when Killyon and Trim meet at 7.30. Referee: Donal Smith (Navan O'Mahonys).

The Davis Cup is a knockout competition confined to senior and intermediate hurling clubs following an open draw and remembers the late Brendan Davis of Kildalkey who in many ways was 'Mr Hurling' in County Meath for a long periods from the 1960s until the 1990s when he held various positions on the Meath Hurling Board including Chairman during the 1070s.

Both finalists qualified for the final in late May with Trim qualifying by virtue of a hard earned 4-7 to 1-12 victory over Kildalkey on 23 May at Boardsmill, two evenings later Killyon reached the final with an impressive 1-16 to 2-6 victory over Boardsmill at Longwood.

Since then Trim have had three victories out of three in the Senior Championship while Killyon have had two wins out of three with their only loss occurring in Round 2 with a five point reversal at the hands of St Peter's Dunboyne in Trim. Their 100% record in the SHC suggests that Trim are on a roll and may be slight favourites but a final is a 'two horse race' and it is down to the form and appetite of a particular team on the night.
