U13: Comprehensive win for Ratoath

July 23, 2014
Ratoath 6-18
Oldcastle 4-6

This was an entertaining, high scoring game, played by two teams who moved the ball quickly through the hands and used long foot passing when required.

Ratoath had the benefit of being able to use their bench which was important on a very warm night when both teams lined out for a 13 a side game.

The first half was tight enough - and only the heroics of AJ in goal for Ratoath stopped Oldcastle wracking up more goals than the 4 they scored! At the other end, Ratoath took most of their chances and wracked up 3-13 themselves in the first half with some fine points from Tom Fadden and Kyle Clinton in particular and with Leigh Sullivan and Connell Ahearne also rowing in.

The half time score 3-13 to 4-2 for Ratoath.

Ratoath made 3 substitutions in the second half and the fresh legs made a big difference. The Ratoath backs, led by Captain, Ryan Kelly started to hold out the Oldcastle attack and limited them to longer range efforts. Some timely blocks by David Caffrey and Daragh Mcpartlin and interceptions of long passes by John Walsh helped Ratoath limit oLdcastle scores while at the other end the fresh legs of Martin Guerrero and Tiarnan Ahearne added to the Ratoath attack and helped Ratoath push on to a good win.

It was a very good all round team performance from Ratoath although the scoreboard flattered a bit as the under strength Oldcastle team who were missing some key players played some lovely football that will surely stand to them in future games.
