Navan O'Mahony's Stephen Bray
O'Mahonys maintained their 100% record in Group A of the hoganstand.com SFC with a big win over Walterstown at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.

Navan O'Mahonys ........ 4-21
Walterstown .................. 1-6

Eight different players got on the scoresheet for the champions who registered 25 times. In addition, O'Mahonys had four different goal scorers.

The registered 1-12 against the breeze when playing into the hospital end in the second-half while leaking just three scores.

The faint hopes an understrength Walterstown had of reaching the quarter-finals were further undermined with the red-carding of Christopher Reynolds in the 43rd minute.

At that stage the board read 3-12 to 0-6. Walterstown managed just one more score, an excellently executed Alban Crosbie goal from close range in the 50th minute.

The Walterstown full-forward shot low to O'Mahonys net having collected Joey Farrelly's long range free. It was only the second goal conceded by the SFC champions in the campaign to date.

O'Mahonys' swift response was Stephen Bray's goal with Paddy Smyth providing the assist. David Nelson's charges closed out the game with five unanswered points.

A second SFC fixture in five days was a big ask for a depleted Walterstown who came into this fixture with an outside chance of reaching the knockout stage. They were short several players who figured in the opening round win over Nobber.

Aaron McLoughlin's seventh minute point was Walterstown sole response to O'Mahonys early flurry of scores. Midway through the half it was 0-6 to 0-1 to the Brews Hill outfit.

One of those points could have been a goal for the town side but Henry Finnegan's 12th minute effort skied over the bar. Paddy Smyth was low and wide with another goal attempt seconds later.

Midfielder Darragh Maguire saw his goal attempt crash against the crossbar early in the second quarter. O'Mahonys had seven wides in the first-half.

When wing-back Brian Dillon pushed forward and pointed in the 23rd minute he was O'Mahonys seventh scorer of the half and the board nearby read 0-9 to 0-2.

Walterstown enjoyed their best spell with a brace of points in quick succession from midfielders Colin O'Sullivan and the long-serving Joey Farrelly.

O'Mahonys responded with a three-goal salvo within as many minutes in the run-up to half-time. Jake Regan bagged the first 26 minutes in.

Within a minute David Bray added the second, fisting to the net at the town end after his initial effort was blocked by Walterstown full-back Stephen O'Keeffe.

Shane Gillespie added the third in the 28th minute with assistance from Henry Finnegan and Jake Regan. By half-time the board read 3-9 to 0-4.
