St. Michaels 3-10,
Gaeil Colmcille 2-12.
St. Michaels booked a place in the Division 3 MFL final with Na Fianna after this thrilling semifinal which was played in ideal conditions in Carlanstown last evening. This was end to end stuff
from start to finish by two evenly matched teams and although St. Michaels made the better start going 1-4 ahead before the Kells side settled into the game and registered their first point on 10
minutes, it was absorbing football from there until the 60th minute. The sides finished the first half on level terms, St. Michaels 1-9, Gaeil Colmcille 2-6.
Both sides possessed exceptional marksmen with 6 of the St. Michaels players getting on the first half score sheet. Lee Morris posed a threat throughout this game and could have done more damage if he had received more ball from outfield, he added points both at the start and end of the opening half and took his goal well in the second half, Oran Meehan was popping up everywhere and registered the first goal of the game on 7 minutes, Peter O'Connell dominated around midfield with some fine fielding together with Jamie Reilly & Jordan Moran putting in great work all over the field. Gaeil Colmcille registered their two goals in the 12th and 14th minutes to leave just the minimum between the sides, Jamie Reilly & Gary Dolan had stretched that lead to 3 points after 20 minutes, in the following three minutes both sides exchanged points with Ronan Lynch and Lee Morris getting their second points of the match, however the remaining 8 minutes of the half belonged to Gaeil Colmcille as some well executed points brought them to honours even at 1-9 to 2-6 at the break.
Gaeil Colmcille were a point up straight from the re-start, however a well taken goal from Lee Morris had the home side back in front a minute later after he got on the end of a Ronan Lynch
free to put it in the back of the net, two minutes later that man again, Lee Morris was brought down in the square and Peter O'Connell duly obliged with the resultant penalty to put his side 3-9 to 2-7 in front with 26 minutes left on the clock. Gaeil Colmcille made the best of the following 10 minutes registering 3 points on a mal functioning scoreboard, Oran Meehan got the home sides last point on 45 minutes when he got on the end of a great move started by Jamie Reilly who passed to Jordan Moran who fed Oran who put it over the black spot. Both sides were reduced to
14 players with 10 minutes remaining, this didn't effect the Kells side who registered 3 more unanswered points but could not manage to get that all important score to level the match in the
remaining minutes of play. Lee Morris however had several goal attempts which were brilliantly saved by the visitors keeper.
Christopher Drew, Adam O'Brien, Gary Dolan, Matthew Halpin, Thomas O'Brien & Michael Dunne were others who played well.
