Cortown got their league campaign back on track after defeat to Bective in round five with a hard fought victory over Ballinabrackey on Sunday evening.
Cortown started well with points from Gary Coyne and Tommy Smith but Ballinabrackey rallied and scored the next six points, one from a penalty in the 20th minute. Two frees one from Gary Coyne and one from Stephen Fitzmaurice closed the gap but ballinabrackey got the next two scores to lead by four. Brian Smith finished the first half scoring with a point for Cortown. Half Time Cortown 0-5 Ballinabrackey 0-8
Cortown made the changes at half time and the introduction of Glen Loughran gave Cortown a huge boost in midfield. points from Ivor O Halloran and Gary Coyne (2) closed the gap further but pointed frees from Ballinabrackey kept them ahead. with five minutes left Coyne drove the ball to the back of the Ballinabrackey net to lead by one. Ballinabrackey leveled with one minute left on the clock. Then a mix up in the Ballinabrackey defence allowed Brian Smith to get Cortowns second goal and Kevin Mc Guinness wrapped up the scoring with an injury time point.
Best for Cortown were Mark Casserly, John McGearty, Glen Loughran and Gary Coyne.
