AFL3: Drumconrath win battle of the 'Drums'

May 19, 2013

Drumconrath's Stephan Crosby
Drumconrath 3-13
Drumbaragh 1-12

Drumconrath following their heavy defeat last week got their season back on track with a fully deserved win over Drumbaragh. Central to this victory was a powerful display from Stephan Crosby who led by example and was well supported by Alan Byrne, Jamie Myles and Brendan Lyons.

A fantastic 1st half performance saw the home side (although the game was moved to Grangegooden) over ran as Drumconrath led 2-10 to 0-6 at the break as Padraig McMahon marked his first A team performance of the year with a goal on 10 minutes and when Lyons netted just on half time Drumconrath had a ten point advantage. Alan Byrne had hit some great scores as Derek Duff (2), Damien Glass as both Lyons and McMahon also pointed twice to add to their goals.

Drumbragh where further rocked when Eoin Martin fired home a 3rd goal just 3 minutes into the second half and while Drumbaragh did out score the Reds 1-6 to 0-3 for the remainder of the game but never really looked in trouble as Peter Tighe and Oran Finnegan worked really hard and the return of Niall Martin to midfield in his 1st start since June 2012 was another to shine for Drumconrath.

Drumconrath management have to be happy with the way the team picked up on the poor performance last week and how they responded in this style and add in the fact that all 6 Drumconrath forwards got on the score sheet is another major plus.

Drumconrath - Sean Kane; Patrick Dunne, Oran Finnegan, John Lynch; Jamie Myles, Peter Tighe, John McDermott; Stephan Crosby (0-1), Niall Martin; Padraig McMahon (1-2), Derek Duff (0-2), Damien Glass (0-1); Eoin Martin (1-0), Alan Byrne (0-5), Brendan Lyons (1-2). Sub Ollie McMahon for McMahon.
