April 27, 2013

Ratoath's Bobby O'Brien
Rath Tó 0-16
Ballivor 1-9

Ratoath dug out a hard fought victory over their Ballivor opponents on a cool dry evening in Bective last Thursday. The game got off to a slow start but it was Ratoath who settled the quicker and with full forward,Bobby O'Brien, in particular prominent, in picking off 4 points from play,Ratoath were 5 points to 2 up after 20 minutes. The rest of the half saw Ballivor come more into the game and with their backs increasingly dominant they managed to get it back to level terms through three converted frees leaving the score at the break 5 points apiece.
After the interval It was again Ratoath who made the better start with points from Eamonn Wallace, Eoghan MacMahon and the outstanding O'Brien.Bryan Macmahon also started to exert more influence with a couple of scores of his own. Ballivor though were proving stubborn opposition and they replied with points of their own before poaching a goal with 10 minutes to go .This score if anything though proved a turning point in Ratoath's favour as it served to galvanise the whole team to a higher level so much so they grabbed 6 of the next 7 scores .Their superior fitness began to tell and with Eoghan MacMahon and others providing a late flurry of scores Ratoath ran out 4 point winners. With an impressive 14 of the 16 points from play and all the starting 6 forwards scoring Eamonn Barry and his backroom team can be quite satisfied with this performance as he looks forward to challenges ahead in the summer and autumn months
