Syddan set a ferocious pace in the early stages but eventually ran out of steam and were soundly beaten in the IFC at Kilberry last Sunday.

The wind assisted north Meath side were off the mark inside a minute after keeper David O'Sullivan converted a free and had the ball in the net 60 seconds later when Philip Duff flicked the ball past stranded Dunderry keeper David Jennings from an Ian Curran centre.

Corner forward Philip Meade then converted a free and added another point from play before Luke Halpenny left it 1-4 to 0-0.

The game was 17 minutes old before Dunderry got off the mark and with Stephen Coogan and Paddy Kennelly their main scoring threat they improved considerably throughout that second quarter and were just three points in arrears at the break, Syddan ahead 1-5 to 0-5.

Two points from Coogan and another from Damien Clarke had the sides level within five minutes of the restart.

Coogan then pointed his side ahead from a free on 38 minutes but it was back level entering the final quarter following a pointed free from Luke Halpenny.

That left it 1-11 to 1-7 and the lead increased to six points before Kevin Traynor was on the mark for Syddan with the last score of the game.
