Rathkenny came away from a very blustery Kilmainhamwood with both points in this Meath hoganstand.com SFC Group B opener played last Sunday evening April 14th.

Rathkenny got off to a good start when Stephen McCabe connected to a sideline ball to fist over in the opening minute. Oldcastle levelled matters through a Paddy Gilsenan free on six minutes. The all important score of the game arrived on seventeen minutes when a centre was collected by Stephen McCabe and offloaded to the onrushing Ivan Lenehan who calmly slotted to the net. When Owen Elliott and Ivan Lenehan sent over two points in quick succession, Rathkenny were leading by five with nine minutes remaining in the half. Gilsenan sent over Oldcastle's second score on twenty-six minutes to leave it 1-03 to 0-02 at the break.

Brian Lenehan registered the opening second half score on thirty-five minutes from the 45 metre line. Paddy Gilsenan added his third free of the day to reduce the gap on forty-two minutes. Rathkenny responded instantly when Jack Gore sent over a free inside sixty seconds. Two minutes later he sent over a sublime score from near the touchline to extend the gap back to six. Oldcastle scored their first point from play on fifty-two minutes through their corner back. However Rathkenny slotted over the game's final score through Owen Elliott on fifty-four minutes to complete a great start to the campaign.
