O'Dowd poised to take Royal reins

October 01, 2012

Mick O'Dowd
Mick O'Dowd is set to be named as Meath's new football manager.

The Skryne man has emerged as favourite to replace Seamus McEnaney after the four remaining candidates were interviewed by the appointments committee in recent days. If chosen, O'Dowd's backroom team is expected to comprise Trevor Giles - who was part of the outgoing management team - Sean Kelly and Colm Brady.

Colm O'Rourke, Paddy Carr and Graham Geraghty were also interviewed for the position, but all the signs are that O'Dowd will be the next Meath manager, and his appointment could be rubberstamped by the county board as early as next Monday night.

It is believed that O'Rourke indicated during his interview last week that he would not be able to take up the position.
