U14FL: Michael's pipped by Dunderry
May 18, 2012
St. Michaels 0-17
Dunderry 3-9
Played in Carlanstown.
St. Michaels put more scores on the board but the old adage of goals win games was proved so true in this Division 4 Shield semi-final played in Carlanstown last evening and to add to St. Michaels woes they had a legitimate point waved wide which would have brought the game to extra time.
On the field of play this was a most enjoyable match for the spectator with both teams giving it their best, it had some great high fielding and point scoring and it was level on seven occasions. Dunderry opened the scoring straight from the throw in but St. Michaels cancelled out that score with a point from Thomas Robertson two minutes later, further first half points from Shane McCormack 0-3, Stephen Dolan, Caolan McConnell 0-2 each and Mark O'Brien 0-1 completed the first half scoring for the home side. Dunderry hit two first half goals on 15 and 24 minutes to be on level terms at 2-3 to 0-9 at the break.
Both sides exchanged early second half points and they were on level terms for the second time in the half on 48 minutes after some exceptional point taking from the St. Michaels trio of Stephen Dolan 0-2, Shane McCormack and Caolan McConnell 0-1 each. Conor Smith added another point on 50 minutes but Dunderry leveled the match at 2-8 to 0-14 for the sixth time on 52 minutes. Joey Curran made some good second half saves in the St. Michaels goals and three further points from Stephen Dolan put the home side 0-17 to 2-8 up after 57 minutes, however Dunderry were not yet finished and their third goal in the 58th minute once again leveled the match and they added their crucial winning point in the second minute of injury time.
