AFL1: Dunshaughlin clawed back by Oldcastle
May 18, 2012

Dunshaughlin's Fergus Toolan
Oldcastle 3-7
Dunshaughlin 2-10
Dunshaughlin surrendered an eight point second half lead to hang on for a draw in this A League Division 1 fixture played in Milbrook.
The visitors made much the better start and raced into a 1-4 to 0-0 lead inside 11 minutes. Trevor Dowd opened the scoring with a well worked goal. Two points from the same player were added to by similar efforts from David McMahon and Fergus Toolan. Oldcastle eventually got off the mark in the 14th minute with a point but this was immediately cancelled out by another Toolan point. However the home side got back in the game with a goal after 2o minutes. The retirement through injury of Anthony Johnson seemed to derail Dunshaughlin and Oldcastle reduced the margin further with a point after 28 minutes. However Dunshaughlin finished the half the stronger with a Dowd free and a fisted effort from rambling wing back Fearghal Delaney leaving the half time score 1-2 to 1-7.
Joe O'Brien was introduced at full forward at half time and made an immediate impact scoring a goal within 3o seconds of the restart. This gave the Black and Ambers an eight point cushion but a mix-up in the Dunshaughlin rearguard let the home side in for a soft goal almost immediately. Oldcastle started to monopolise possession at this stage and two successive points left them only three points behind. A well taken Ray Maloney point after 39 minutes settled Dunshaughlin somewhat but after a scrappy period of play Oldcastle scored a third goal with five minutes remaining. They followed this up immediately with an equalising point. A Dowd free restored Dunshaughlin's advantage but Oldcastle equalised. A Toolan free once again put Dunshaughlin ahead in injury time but once again Oldcastle responded with a free of their own which proved to be the last score.
Best for Dunshaughlin were Kenny McTigue, Denis Kealy, Trevor Dowd, Fergus Toolan and David McMahon
