Geraghty slams Meath Board

Meath's Graham Geraghty
Graham Geraghty has criticised Meath County Board for involving Sean Boylan in the managerial row.

Royal County managerial legend Boylan was name-dropped last week as the successor-in-waiting to under-pressure current boss Seamus McEnaney but the Dunboyne herbalist was inadvertently left with egg on his face when 'Banty' subsequently survived a vote of confidence from clubs on Wednesday night. Player / selector Geraghty has pointed the finger of blame for the embarrassment squarely at the Board:

"Certain elements of the County Board did themselves no favours over the last couple of weeks in all of this," the 1999 All-Ireland winning captain says in The Examiner.

"I think Sean would have preferred if his name was left out of it until the end. It was very unfair of Barney [Allen] to put Sean's name out there. It overcomplicated the matter.

"They should have waited until the vote was over and take it from there then if they needed a new manager.

"If you had asked me after the Louth game, I would have said that he [McEnaney] would have lost the vote. But obviously the clubs went away and had a think about it and as the week went on it looked like he had more of a chance to stay."
