Farrell criticised by delegates

Cillian Farrell
Meath hurling manager Cillian Farrell has been criticised by some football clubs in the county.
Farrell requested that any of his dual players in the squad not to play club 'A' league football last weekend; a situation that did not go down well with many clubs, who voiced their concern at last Monday night's county board meeting.
Moynalvey delegate Peter Collins asked had the Offaly native the authority to do what he did.
"Who gave the hurling manager authority to stop players lining out with their clubs in the AFL on Sunday, it was very unfair on the players," Collins stressed at the meeting. "If they have that Hitler type rule in Offaly, it shouldn't apply in Meath."
Farrell was not present at the meeting, but admitted to the Meath Chronicle that he had asked the players not to line out for the club league matches as they prepare opening round of the NHL against Kildare on Sunday.
"Last week was the only time that I've ever requested players not to turn out for their clubs. We were down training at the Curragh, we had a tough day. I asked the players not to play," Farrell admitted to the Chronicle.
"I said if there's any problems with their club managers they can ring me and I spoke to a few managers. I explained my position and I explained if it was any other team in the league except Kildare I would have released them without any problem at all."
