AFL4: Longwood open with a win
February 06, 2012

Longwood's Ryan Keenan
Longwood 2-8
Cortown 1-7
Longwood opened up their 2012 league campaign with a very hard fought win over Cortown.
Scores were hard to come by. Martin Birmingham opened Longwood's account and both teams exchanged points before Cortown snatched a goal despite Darragh Maguire getting a hand to it, leaving it 1-2 to 0-3. It wasn't long before one of Longwood's two debutants, Conor Keenan, snatched the ball from the sky after a long ball from Karl Ennis and kicked to the net. Points followed from David Dixon and a magnificent point from Ryan Keenan to leave Longwood 1-5 to 1-3 ahead at the break.
The second half was touch and go but Longwood started to pull away with two great points from centre forward Karl Ennis, but Cortown fought back to within a point. Llongwood were full of youth but it was experience that won this game for them. First Longwood keeper Darragh Maguire pulled off a fantastic save to keep them ahead and then the deciding moment came when Longwood corner back Ciaran Greene found himself in the corner forward position and his soccer skills showed as he beat the goal keeper to the ball and from tight angle he finished to the net.
Scores for the wood M Bermingham 0-4, K Ennis 0-2, D Dixon 0-1, R Keenan 0-1, C Keenan 1-0.
