Work currently taking place at the Meath GAA headquarters will see the ground capacity rise by 5,000 and chairman Barney Allen has said there are plans in place to build a new concrete terrace at the town end of the stadium.

Following publication of the Slattery report, which investigated the health and safety standing of all intercounty grounds, Pairc Tailteann had its capacity cut to just over 10,000. That was after the ground held 20,000 spectators for the All-Ireland SFC Qualifier between Meath and Galway in July last year.

Extra steel barriers have been installed on the terrace in recent days which will see the ground's capacity boosted by 5,000 before the opening Allianz FL Division 2 game against Monaghan on Saturday.

"The work on the barriers will be finished this week. There will be no problems ahead of the weekend game," explained Allen to hoganstand.com this morning.

"The work on the terrace will bring the capacity up by nearly 5,000, with the terrace now taking over 10,500 people."

One of the main reasons for the original fall in capacity was the fact that the grass banks at both ends of the ground were no longer deemed safe for spectators, but Meath have plans in place to build a new terrace confirmed the chairman.

"The grass banks are now closed, but we hope to put a concrete terrace in place at the O'Mahony's End of the ground. That will take place, if not this year, then next year."
