A great season for Donaghmore/Ashbourne

November 27, 2010
As we come to the end of another season, and reflect back on the status of adult football within the club the term "steady progress" could sum up our year. We haven't made that all important breakthrough in the quest to obtain Keegan Cup glory, but overall we are going in the right direction.

It was a historic year as we managed to field four separate teams in the various championships with the opening weekend seeing almost 70 players taking part for the Moors. Although the senior team did not manage to capture the silverware, Cathal Cullen's Junior C team made it back to back championship success winning the title in fine style in October. We also made a huge breakthrough in the Unde r21 championship by completing a double success in Pairc Tailteann in Navan in mid November As we go to press our second league team are awaiting a date for the Division 1B league final. An overview of our year went as follows:
When the draw for the senior championship took place in February Donaghmore Ashbourne were drawn in the group of death with two of the annual favourites Summerhill and O'Mahonys in the five team group. Having the two big guns was bad enough, but we were also paired with our bogey team Duleek/Bellewstown and 2009 Intermediate Championship winners Oldcastle. There was also the added pressure that only two teams from the group were to qualify for the playoff stages of the competition.
Our opening round game came in mid April where were travelled to Dunshaughlin to play Summerhill. After a poor first half, we trailed at the interval by 0-11 to 0-03 and although we accounted for ourselves much better in the second period, it wasn't enough to pull in the margin and we lost on a final score line of 2-08 to 0-17. Two weeks later, it was back to championship action as we travelled to Donore knowing that a defeat against Duleek/Bellewstown meant the end of the championship campaign. Understandably nerves play a big part in the opening period and we trailed at the interval by 0-05 to 0-04. An early second half penalty converted by Andrew Tormey seemed to settle the nerves and we managed to finish strong and run out 1-09 to 0-09 winners to keep the dream alive.
Our lads had to wait a full month for the third round of the competition and on this occasion we travelled to Pairc Tailteann to play O'Mahonys. This was one our finest displays of the year and although the interval score line of 0-05 to 0-04 showed the minimum between the teams, a strong second half saw our second victory of the group stages. Having a bye in the final round of games the fourth round played in mid July was our last game. Going into to this round of games we were well positioned but needed a win and to maintain our scoring difference over Summerhill to ensure a playoff place. Our lads travelled to Athboy to play Oldcastle while at the same time Duleek/Bellewstown and Summerhill were in battle in Dunshaughlin.
Like the previous games it was close in the early stages but as the game progressed we ran out deserving 2-13 to 0-12 winners. This result together with Duleek/Bellewstown getting the better of Summerhill ensured that we qualified top of the group regardless of the final day results.
The quarter final of the competition saw our lads make the trip back to Pairc Tailteann in July with seasoned championship side Skryne the opposition. Unfortunately we did not play to our full potential and lost on a score line of 2-11 to 1-08 to the Tara men who went on to lift the Keegan Cup.
On the league front, our senior team showed great progress. 2009 saw the lads get off to a poor start but eventually get enough results to stay in the top flight. At the start of this season the aim was to get a couple of early result and then concentrate on the championship campaign. Our opening game in early February saw the lads travel to Dunshaughlin and earn a good 0-12 to 0-07 away win. Two weeks later we had our first home game and recorded our second win with a 3-07 to 0-09 win. The next game in the league was another home game in March with Duleek/Bellewstown the visitors. In a hotly contested game we made it three wins out of three with a 1-07 to 1-03 win. Our winning streak continued through the month of May with two further wins under our belt. During this period we recorded a 2-13 to 1-06 away win over Wolfe Tones and a comprehensive 2-17 to 0-07 home win over Trim. By the half way stage of the league we were now looking at the top end of the table and when we travelled to Seneschalstown in June another hard earned 2-11 to 1-06 ensured top spot on the table.
Our next home game saw the visit of Skryne to Killegland West and in a very entertaining game we came out on the right side of a 2-09 to 1-09 win. The only defeats in the league came away to Dunboyne at the end of July on a score line of 0-13 to 0-10 and in September, again away to Summerhill on a score line of 2-08 to 2-07. In both games we had enough chances to continue our unbeaten run but showed a little inexperience especially in Summerhill when we conceded 2-1 in the final minutes. Our two final games in October were important to ensure a place in the top league final. A good 1-13 to 0-06 away win over Simonstown Gaels in the penultimate game and a final round 1-10 to 0-07 home win over Walterstown was enough to ensure a Division 1A league final. In the final we met Summerhill for the third time in 2010. This was a very entertaining game but we had to leave Pairc Tailteann disappointed as we went down on a score line of 2-05 to 0-10.
Our second team had high hopes of doing well in the Junior A championship during 2010. In the opening round in mid April our lads travelled to Dunderry and saw off O'Mahonys with a well deserved 1-13 to 0-09 victory. Later on in the month we made the journey to Walterstown to play one in the favourites in the competition Balivor. Despite getting off to a perfect start with a goal in the opening minutes we struggled for the remainder of the game and lost out on a disappointing 0-09 to 1-04 score line. In round three we travelled to Dunboyne in late May and managed to get the cart back on track with a comfortable 0-17 to 2-06 win over Bective. By the time our fourth round game was fixed in July, the team were looking as sharp as they did all season and this was reflected in their performance over Summerhill in Dunboyne. In a very entertaining game we never looked in trouble and moved a step closer to the qualifying stages with a 2-10 to 0-08 win. Our place in the quarter finals of the competition was confirmed in the final round although we did not even have to kick a ball as our opponents Boardsmill gave a walkover. In the quarter final of the competition we were paired against one of the competition favourites Dunsany, another one of the first team sides in this championship. This was one of the strangest games any Donaghmore Ashbourne side may have ever witnessed. In the early stages of the game our opposition did not look anything like favourites and our lads totally dominated the early exchanges. By the end of the first half we led by 0-08 to 0-02 and looked comfortable. Even in the opening period of the second half we continued to dominate and by the third quarter looked certain to have a place in the semi finals of the competition as we led by 1-10 to 0-04. Then as if a switch was flicked we totally dropped out of the game and saw the game unfold before our eyes. We conceded a staggering 1-07 without reply in the final 12 minutes of the game while at the other end we missed five scoring chances including a possible goal. By the time the referee had played the extra minutes of additional time we had lost by 1-11 to 1-10 and exited the competition still wondering how such a collapse occurred.
On the league front the second team have gone through the league campaign with a100% record and are awaiting a date for the league final. The opening round of the league in March saw our lads travel to Seneschalstown where we came away with a hard earned 2-10 to 2-08 victory. April saw the visit of Navan O'Mahonys to Killegland West where we recorded another two point win as we won on a score line of 1-09 to 1-07. May saw two more wins in the campaign with a 2-10 to 2-04 away win to Wolfe Tones and a comprehensive 2-17 to 2-06 home win over Dunshaughlin. As the summer months approached the team was determined to maintain their unbeaten run. In June they travelled to Simonstown and recorded another comfortable victory when they saw of the home side on a score line of 3-12 to 1-15. Round six of the league took place in August and our lads hosted Summerhill and after a good competitive game our lads ran out 2-12 to 1-09 winners. The end of August saw a weakened Skryne team travel to Ashbourne on a bright Sunday morning and by the end of the opening half the game was over as a contest. Our lads continued didn't let up in the second half and by the time the final whistle blew we had registered 3-15 on the scoreboard with the visitors only managing 0-3.Our round eight game of the campaign took place in September and we travelled to Duleek to play on a wet Saturday evening. Like many of our encounters with the Duleek/Bellewstown outfit this was a hard battle but our lads ground out another victory with a 0-12 to 1-03 win. We still have an outstanding game against Cortown but have already qualified for the league final.
Having captured the 2009 Junior D title with a late goal from Timmy O'Regan our third team had the prospect of playing in the Junior C championship for 2010. Although a step up in grade our lads were determined to give it the all and make it back to back championship success. When the details of the draw were announced it was evident that there was going to be no easy game this year.
Our first game of the competition saw the lads travel up the N2 to Seneschalstown where Oldcastle provided the opposition in Late May. Our lads go off to a perfect start in the campaign with a fully deserved 3-11 to 2-05 winning result. Our round 2 game against Kilmainhamwood scheduled for the end of June did not take place as the North Meath outfit could not field a team and we were awarded a walkover. Or third game of the competition was a July fixture against Castletown in Donore. There was very little between the team in the opening period but the opposition's lack of discipline cost them dearly as they were reduced to 13 men before the interval. Although we had the numerical advantage for the second half we struggled to exploit the space and only managed to run out 0-11 to 0-05 winners. The last game of the group stages was an August fixture in Dunshaughlin with Moynalvey the opposition. This was a very entertaining game with our forwards on song and we ran out 4-10 to 0-11 winners to book a place in the quarter finals of the group section. At quarter final stage we travelled back to Donore and after a very close game we finished strong and ran out 1-07 to 0-08 winners. The semi final of the competition was again played in a familiar ground with Seneschalstown the venue and St. Michael's the opposition. In this game we got off the worst start and conceded a goal within the opening 20 seconds. Although we played well in the first half we were level at the interval on a score line of 0-04 to 1-01 but we dominated the second half to run out 0-11 to 1-01 winners to book a second successive Championship final appearance. The final paired our lads up with Nobber who themselves were looking to make it a Junior C and Intermediate championship double. Like many of the games earlier in the competition the blend of youth and experience worked well and out lads played well as a team. In a game that we dominated from the start our lads ran out deserving 3-10 to 0-12 winners. To put this victory in context our third team will now be playing at a higher level than our second team were playing in 2005 which shows the progress of the club over recent years. Well done to Cathal Cullen, Ray Lawton, Brendan O'Connor and the entire junior panel on their success.
On the league front our lads had a very disappointing end to the season after discovering that despite being in contention for promotion and a league final place that an inadequate rule within the county rule book meant that we did not qualify as some teams awarded walkovers managed to finish ahead of us in the table. It's not that any rule was broken but the rule in place does not take account of teams that play all their games. On saying that we did perform well in the league but two drawn games did cost promotion. Our opening game in March was a 1-10 to 0-10 home win over Moynalvey. This was followed by a trip to Kilmainhamwood where we drew with the home side on a score line of 1-11 to 1-11. May saw the lads on the road again with two away games for the team. Firstly we travelled to Donore and recorded a 1-18 to 0-08 victory and this was followed later in the month with a hard earned 2-08 to 1-10 narrow victory over Syddan. We had our best display of the year when the lads hosted Dunshaughlin and were worth every score of the 7 -15 to 1-12 win.  August saw the visit of Darren Fay's Trim to Ashbourne and again we gave a great performance to run out 4-09 to 0-11 winners to keep ourselves in the hunt for a promotion spot. One of our most disappointing result of the campaign came in October when fellow promotion hunters Dunderry visited Ashbourne. In This game we got off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute and this was followed with a couple of quick points. Although totally in control of the game we were guilty of show boating and looking for the perfect ball. In the end this cost us and the visitors managed to hit five unanswered points in the closing stages of the game which included a 64th minute converted 45 to earn a draw with a score line of 2-10 to 1-13. When we played Nobber in November, as a team were slightly off the pace and with the opposition training for a Leinster club Intermediate final the result did not go our way. Although we were level at the interval on a score line of 1-04 to 1-04 we failed to score in the second half and lost out on a score line of 2-09 to 1-04. As mentioned above this result and the fact that other teams got walkovers resulted in our lads failing to qualify for promotion and making it a championship and league double.
After our success in the Junior D championship in 2009 we had the opportunity to enter a fourth team in the club championship this year. When the opening round of the championships took place at the end of May we made the historic breakthrough by fielding four separate teams in the championship. Although the aim of the fourth team was to give some fringe players an extra couple of games in the year the squad knew they were not just making up the numbers and were determined to go as far as they could.
Our opening game saw the lads travel to Walterstown to play Drumbaragh. We managed to used a total of 19 players in this game and gave a great display recording a 0-15 to 1-06 victory. In round two of the competition we travelled to Simonstown to play Skryne. In another competent performance we ran out 3-13 to 0-03 winners. Round three of the group stages saw the lads travel to Dunshaughlin where Clann na nGael provided the opposition. This was a closer game than the previous games but a good second half saw our lads pull away and book a place in the quarter final on a 2-11 to 1-07 score line.
We had to wait until the end of August for the quarter final where we were fixed to play Ballinlough's second team in Skryne. This was an entertaining game and although we played to our potential the North Meath side had a little more experience and strength in depth than our younger side. Considering that this was our fourth team who were playing a second team (some with experience at higher grades) we competed well and battled to the final whistle. Unfortunately we made our exit from the competition on a score line of 2-10 to 1-07.
On the league front our fourth team competed well and managed to retain our status in Division 5B despite the fact that we met a number of teams that were loaded with players from grades higher than this standard of football. Our aim for this team is to give as many players as possible competitive football but when you meet another team in the competition using players from an A league team it can make games difficult. On saying that our lads never gave up.
Our opening game saw our lads travel to Athboy and we competed well in the opening half. Unfortunately the home side introduced a number of stronger players at the interval and they ran out 2-12 to 1-07. In round two we recorded our first win of the campaign with a good 3-13 to 1-10 home victory over Skryne. Our third round game was fixed against Walterstown in May but the Johnstown outfit were unable to field and gave us a walkover. A very strong Blackhall Gaels arrived in Ashbourne at the end of May and although we competed well we lost out on a score line of 2-06 to 2-04. We travelled to Dunsany in June and although managed to register three goals away from home we lost out on a score line of 2-15 to 3-06. Our final game of the campaign came in August when we hosted north Meath Side Drumconrath in Killegland West. Although we were always in control of the game the visitors reduced to 13 men for indiscipline during the second half as we ran out 2-09 to 1-09 winners.
On the Under 21 front we managed to cap off a good year but collecting both the main Under 21 Championship and the C Championship title in a historic double in Pairc Tailteann recently.
Our first team opened their championship campaign with a well deserved win over Duleek/ Bellewstown in Curraha. This was a very physical game but our lads battled to the end to run out 1-10 to 0-09 winners. The Semi final of the competition was another meeting with Summerhill and on this occasion we totally controlled the game to run out 4-16 to 0-05 winners. And to the final itself where a young Simonstown team provided the opposition. Our lads were very focused and when Mattie Devine hit the back of the net within the first minute there was only going to be one winner. By the interval our lads led by 1-08 to 0-4. In the second half with David Morgan and Bryan Menton dominating midfield we continued to push on and ran out 2-15 to 0-04 winners capturing the title for the first time.
Not to be outdone by the first team our second team had an equally successful campaign when they captured the C championship title when the saw off Meath Hill in a great exciting final full of skill by both sides. In the opening round of the competition our lads recorded a 0-13 to 0-07 victory over Clonard. At the quarter final stage our lads travelled to Seneschalstown where Drumconrath were the opposition. Our lads played some great football and ran out deserving winners with a final score line of 1-12 to 0-03. At semi final stage our lads were drawn against competition favourites Bective. In this game our lads fought hard against a strong well drilled team but the grit and determination shown by our young side won out on the day. When the final whistle was blown our lads were 2-11 to 1-10 ahead and had a booked a place in the final. The final itself was a great game with both Donaghmore Ashbourne and Meath Hill giving a great display of skill and commitment. It was an end to end game with plenty of scores, great tackling and support play shown by both teams. Thankfully our lads just had a little more in terms of skill and we ran out 4-11 to 3-05 winners.
Any year that a club collects silverware is a success but the fact that Donaghmore Ashbourne added another Junior Championship title and made the breakthrough in both under 21 championships is a credit to all involved. The successes together with our results in all the leagues is evidence again that we are making progress. Hopefully 2011 we be the year when we will have captured the main prize in Meath Club Football.

Juvenile Football
At Donaghmore Ashbourne, our nurturing of new talent starts with the Acorns. Many thanks to students from Ashbourne Community School who turn up at 9:45am every Saturday to help coach our youngest players. Well done to Cristin Kelly, Gareth Deery, Hayley Jenkinson and Melanie Kirwan for their invaluable support and long may it continue.

Street Leagues Grand Final
On Saturday the 12th June, the club hosted the Grand Finals of the street leagues. We had everything - glorious sunshine on tap, tea and coffee, Eugene and the girls manning the barbecues, but most of all - the club's future stars on show. After a parade around pitch - one with all the "county " teams led by the drummer and piper from the Dublin Fire Brigade band, the games began.  The day was rounded off by the medal presentation. Well done to the Juvenile Committee and mentors (and parents), who did such a fantastic job of organising the day and congratulations to all the players - the future looks bright indeed.

Under 8 to under10
The under 8, 9 and 10 teams have all competed in their respective Meath Leagues set up by the participating clubs and have improved greatly under the "Go-Games" format.

Under 12 Reserves
A great year for our under 11's who played in the Under 12 Reserve League and came out as eventual winners, after a great win over St. Peter's Dunboyne. Well done to all involved.

Under 12 A
This team played in Division 1 and after wins over Ratoath, O'Mahonys, Simonstown, Kells, and Skyrne and one loss to St. Colmcille's, they made the semi-final. After an epic game which went to extra-time, Donaghmore Ashbourne came out on top and qualified for the final against Skryne. It was off to Pairc Tailteann, but unfortunately on the night we were beaten 2-8 to 1-10 after a fantastic game. The lads were downbeat but have regrouped and played O'Mahonys in the under13 Reserve final.

Under 14 B
This team had a good year overall but were beaten by St Cuthbert's in their semi-final.

Under 14 A
So near but yet so far, could be the motto for this youthful Donaghmore Ashbourne team. They had a great campaign but came up short against a strong Simonstown team, losing the League final 4-8 to 0-8, and the Championship final by one goal after a great comeback. Keep it up and success will follow.

Under 16 B
This side played in Division 3 and put up some great performances against mostly one- team clubs.

 Under 16 A
After a great six months of hard work and training, the U16 lads got their just rewards by winning the Division 1 league/Championship final, bringing the Benny Caffrey cup home to the club. After a great semi-final win over Ratoath, Donaghmore Ashbourne faced St Peter's Dunboyne, who had beaten us by two points earlier in the campaign. Our first half performance left us 0-3 to 0-6 in arrears, but a fantastic second half performance full of character, guts and passion saw us emerge victorious with a final scoreline of 1-12 to 1-7. In a note to the U12 team, this team lost the U12 final four years ago, but kept up the hard work and training, won the U-14's and U16's. To all the players on our panel, a big thank you from the mentors - it was a privilege to be involved with you.

Minors
Our Minors qualified for the League final, but were beaten in the end by a strong Ratoath team. In the game up to half time, they struggled in the second the half and lost by 1-13 to 1-5 but stayed battling to the end. Were contenders in the Minor Championship in July, but lost out to Dunshaughlin. A number of the lads are now playing adult football and performing very well at the higher level.

Under 13 B
The U-13 reserve side met with O'Mahonys in the Reserve final in Ashbourne on 13th November at 5pm. In a game played in foggy conditions, both sides gave a very entertaining display of skill and commitment. There was little between the teams at the interval, but a solid second half performance gave Donaghmore Ashbourne a 0-14 to 1-02 winning margin.

Under 13 A
This side were beaten in quarter- final by Wolfe Tones after finishing third in their group.

Under 15
Donaghmore Ashbourne U15's lost their semi-final to Dunboyne, but were very unlucky with major injuries depriving them of the services of at least four of their normal starting 15. Under 16 awaits after Christmas.

Under 17
This side had a great win in the semi-final over Dunboyne by 1-10 to 0-8 in thrilling match, but were beaten by Ratoath in final by 1-11 to 0-4 on a day when we didn't perform to our usual standard . Ratoath fully deserved their win and a huge effort is required from all the lads for a run at Minor next year.

County Players
The club was represented very well by players at county level at various squads from under 12 to minor.

Schools
A big thank you to our three primary schools, St Mary's, St Declan's and the Gaelscoil, not forgetting Ashbourne Community School for their help in developing and fostering the school-club link.

Hurling
Minor team
Our minors had a good run in 2010. They put in some great league campaign displays and were successful against some traditionally stronger sides.
As far as championship is concerned, they started the year well with a good showing that saw them overcome a strong Moylagh/Kilskyre side that had beaten them one week earlier in the league.
This win put them into a semi final position. A win here would put them into their second championship final in three years, but unfortunately they came up against very strong Kildalkey side. The Donaghmore Ashbourne lads were missing one or two of their stronger players, so they were catching up the whole match and Kildalkey came out eventual winners in the end. This put an end to the campaign for a minor side which has progressed greatly over the past three years and whose players, in future, will show results in U-21 and adult competitions for the club.

U-21
Our U-21 hurlers were out in the first round of the championship on the evening of the 12th of April. They took on Killyon in Dunganny. Both teams had players who played in last year's Junior B Final and on paper were evenly matched. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we took to the field with diminished numbers. Both teams started the match well and some very nice scores were taken. As the first half progressed, Killyon pushed on strongly and they had a 10-15 minute interval of play in which they began to pull away. Donaghmore Ashbourne lads scored a goal which brought them back within touching distance before the break, with a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7. Killyon took to the second half with great enthusiasm, gradually pulling away to win the game well in the end.

Adult First team
In 2010, our Junior A team were out to compensate for a relatively poor showing in 2009's competition. Training went well early in the year, which created good competition for places.
Their first match took place in Dunsany, were they met Navan O'Mahonys. This was a must win game for Donaghmore Ashbourne if we had serious aspirations of making the knockout stages. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, and there was nothing seperating the teams. Early in the second half, Navan got through the Ashbourne defence and put the sliotar in the back of the net. Moments after this, the clouds opened and it started pouring rain. With this deterioration on the weather, both teams found it difficult to hurl well and there was scoring was at a minimum. Thankfully, for all watching and attempting to play, the rain eased off and both teams got to hurling again. Ashbourne made a big push to close the deficit and with all their work they managed to turn the tides and put themselves up by two points. The game closed out with this score and our lads had one step on the ladder.
Donaghmore Ashbourne took on Kiltale in their second fixture. The team had suffered an upset against Kiltale in the beginning of last year's championship, which proved to be their undoing in their attempts to progress in the competition. It was Kiltale who started the stronger of the sides. Their corner forward got in early for an easy goal in the first few minutes of the half. Then not too long after, the sliotar came in over the heads of both full back and full forward, and a hopeful swipe from Kiltale's full forward found it's way right into the corner of the goal. These mistakes meant that we had it all to do. There were good scores taken from the forwards in an attempt to pull our way back into the game as we trailed by three points.
In the second half, the Don /Ash defence held strong against any attempts from the Kiltale attackers, both the half backs and midfield held the position fantastically, and there were some lovely scores taken from our forwards to take the game on a 1-13 to 2-7 scoreline.
The last group game of the competition was against Dunboyne. Dunboyne proved too strong on the day and won out the game with a margin of six points in the end. This result had us knocked out of the competition on points difference. So the summer campaign ended early for the Donaghmore Ashbourne Junior As.

Adult second team
The objective for the Donaghmore Ashbourne Junior "B" side in 2010 was to retain their title. In their first outing, they took on a strong Trim outfit. Both teams were kept up with each other in the first half, but the Trim lads gained a lead in the second half and came out victorious with a two point advantage
The second fixture was against Drumree. The Don Ash lads were out to make up for their first round loss, in order to get back on track for the year. Drumree started somewhat stronger in the first few minutes of the game, getting a couple of unanswered scores. Then Ian Dowd burst a ball over the bar from the fifty to open up the Ashbourne scoring. Not long after, the Ashbourne attack were putting over some lovely scores. Which put Ash up 1-4 to 1-2 at half time.
The second half continued as the first ended. Don/Ash won the clash and sent a sliotar into the forwards. It was at this point that Ashbourne's dominance in the centre of the field became apparent. They pushed on from this point and proved too strong for Drumree. Final score Don/Ash 3-10 to Drumree's 1-4.
Unfortunately, in a similar scenario to our first team, the last group game did not go the way of the Junior Bs and proved the to be their undoing, as they were up against last year's Final opponents Killyon. The game ended in a draw, which saw Killyon progress in the competition.

Adult Div 2 League
The Divison 2 campaign started high hopes and great intentions for the year. Our first team showed strongly in their early Division 2 league matches. The campaign kicked off with a home match against St. Peters of Dunboyne. It was a tight game, with the wind a factor in both halves, but Donaghmore Ashbourne prevailed in the end with a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-4.
The Donaghmore Ashbourne lads lined out away to Dunderry for the second game of their competition The game started off well and continued at a breakneck pace throughout, with our lads staying ahead on the scoreboard by a narrow margin. As the match was drawing to an end, it was very evenly matched, with the lead going back and forth between the sides, with one side ahead by a point or two, or the sides level. But our lads pulled away with a narrow two point win in the end. This result gave the team two wins out of two in the league.
Game three had them out against Wolfe Tones. It was a good battle and both teams looked strong. The game ended in a draw on 2-10 to 3-7. This kept the lads in the running for the competition, having to win one of their last two matches against Ratoath and Kilmessan.
Both proved to be the case, as our lads gained a 2-13 to 2-11 win over local rivals Ratoath and a convincing 3-11 to 1-07 win over Kilmessan. This put theus top of the group and into the semi - final.
The match was against Drumree in Dunganny. Drumree burst out of the blocks and started the match the stronger. But, come half time, our lads were right back in the mix. It was a seriously tight end to the game and our lads lost out by a single point.
