Meath U14 7-a-side final
August 27, 2010

Michael McMahon and Peter O'Halloran present the Jim Meade Perpetual Cup to Barney Allen Chairman of the Meath County Board before the start of the 2009 finals at Pairc Tailteann.
The Meath U14 7 a-side finals will take place in Pairc Tailteann this Saturday beginning at 10am.
After the success of last years competition which was held to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the GAA, Coiste Peil na nOg decided to make it an annual event.
Eight teams fought their way through the regional qualifiers to reach this stage and will contest for the Jim Meade Perpetual Cup and the Derek Brady Memorial Shield. Neither of last years winners (Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the Cup or Na Fianna in the Shield) qualified for the finals to defend their titles. However there will be no shortage of quality on show with a great cross section of clubs.
Group A will comprise of Bru na Boinne, Skryne, Nobber and St Peters/Pauls, while Group B will be made up of St Cuthberts, Inny Gaels, Summerhill and county Feile representatives Simonstown Gaels.
Each group will be played on a round-robin basis with the top 2 in each group qualifying for the Cup semi-finals while 3rd and 4th in each section will contest the shield semi-finals.
Matches will be 15 minute duration with the finals 20 minutes. There are a number of variations to normal rules in that only 2 plays of the ball are permitted, goals and points count for the same value and free kicks scored from the ground will earn two points for the team. These innovations have proved to be very successful and places more emphasis on skill and team-work and helps eliminate fouling.
The Jim Meade Perpetual Cup was kindly sponsored by the Drumconrath club in memory of one of their most dedicated club members who was instumental in much of the GAA success in the Drumconrath/Meath Hill area and especially at underage level.
The Derek Brady Memorial Shield remembers a young man who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident in Taiwan in 1996 aged 22 years. The shield was donated by St Cuthberts Bohermeen in memory of Derek who played all his under-age football with the club and whose father Liam was a former offical with both the Meath Juvenile Board and the Meath Minor Board.
Referees for the day will be Ciaran Flynn and Patrick Neilis.
Poceedings get under way at the Brews Hill venue at 10am and admission is free.
