Gaeil Colmcille 4-8
Rathmolyon 2-11

Gaeil Colmcille sent Rathmolyon, the senior hurling champions of 2006, to a relegation final with Navan O'Mahonys after defeating them at a sunny Athboy.

Fionn Ferguson got the 2008 intermediate championship winners off to great start with fine goal and Brendan Murray added two more points before Rathmolyon found their range. Kevin Fagan got them off the mark and then Gary Cole cut through the Kells rearguard to score a brilliant goal. A foul on Brendan Murray inside the square saw Tommy Shine net the resulting penalty. To their credit "The Village" kept batting away and some fine scores from Mickey Cole and Eamon Regan kept them in contention at the break as Gaeil Colmcille held a 2-7 to 1-6 advantage.

Mickey Cole gave the Rathmolyon supporters some hope with two pointed frees early in the second half but that's as good as it got for them. In the space of five minutes Gaeil Colmcille put the game out of their reach with well taken goals from Charlie Usher and a second from county minor Fionn Ferguson. With fifteen minutes left on the clock the Kells side held a six point advantage 4-7 to 1-10. A Mickey Cole goal and a John Farrell point gave Rathmolyon some hope but with the Gaeil Colmcille defence holding firm time ran out for them and they now must beat Navan O'Mahonys to avoid the dreaded drop to the Intermediate hurling ranks.

Gaeil Colmcille had outstanding performances from Conor Murray in goals who brought off a great first half save, defenders Michael Foley and Eoin O'Sullivan, midfielder Tommy Shine with Charlie Usher Fionn Ferguson and Brendan Murray giving the Rathmolyon defence a torrid time.
