The kids are alright

November 30, 2009
Kids represent the future of gaelic games. They are the very lifeblood of our Association, so it's vital that we look after them. By sponsoring the Seneschalstown minor and U17 footballers in 2009, Dixon International Transport Ltd. certainly did its bit to help safeguard the future of grassroots GAA in the Royal County.

For 125 years, the Gaelic Athletic Association has been handed down from generation to generation. That's how the indigenous Irish sporting organisation has survived and thrived. Today, it is stronger than ever, deeply rooted into the very heart of our rural communities but also huge and prominent on the national stage. As our kids continue to take up the gauntlet, the future of the GAA is in safe hands.
Seneschalstown is a prime example of a rural area that's promoting gaelic games above and beyond the call of duty. The yellow furze regained the Meath SFC in 2009 and also competed brilliantly at every other level, including minor and U17. The latter two teams were generously sponsored by Dixon International Transport Ltd.
The deal came about as company MD Michael Dixon is a next-door neighbour of one of the Seneschalstown players. Michael takes the story up: "Towards the end of last season, Robert approached us to ask would we be interested in sponsoring the teams. We had no issue whatsoever doing something for them. Indeed, we were delighted to get involved with the local club and we'd love to go forward doing it again next year."
Sounds like this could be the beginning of a long-term mutual relationship between Dixon International Transport and Seneschalstown GFC. "We sponsored the minors and the U17s and both teams did well," Michael continues. "They have good players coming through and good men over them. They put in a lot of work and they had a very good year, winning the minor league. We got involved because of the local connection and we're happy to support them. We'd always support local clubs involved in any sport, but we follow the GAA in particular."
Dixon International Transport is one of Ireland's leading logistics and distribution companies. Established in March 1998, this family-run business specialises in national and international haulage and is at the cutting edge of its industry.
The company headquarters is strategically placed, just five miles north of Ashbourne, within close proximity of the M1, M50 and the Port Tunnel. Thus, Dixon International is perfectly located to efficiently service the entire nation. As well as its domestic service, the company also provides a competitive haulage service to destinations throughout Europe and the UK. Dixon International also has a central European base in Olen, Belgium.
With 80 employees, Dixon International Transport is a young, dynamic, company. All drivers are highly skilled, fully trained, competent and conscious of the importance of strong customer service.
The company's burgeoning fleet consists of 60 top-of-the-range Volvo and Scania trucks and approximately 100 trailers. The extensive range of trailers includes fridges, multi-temp fridges, Euroliners, box vans, tail-lifts, double deck trailers, skeleton trailers and tanks. To ensure that the fleet remains fresh and at maximum capacity, the trucks are replaced every two years.
Ongoing investment in quality equipment ensures that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum. Having invested in a modern high-spec fleet with a variety of truck types, the company can ensure that all customer requirements are accurately matched. As a result of the diverse selection of trucks and trailers offered, the company can transport everything from foodstuffs to machinery and from hazardous goods to furniture.
Customer service is the cornerstone of Dixon International Transport. This is evident from the large and varied client base from various industry sectors including pharmaceutical, retail, manufacturing and hazardous goods, with refrigeration, food distribution and groupage listed amongst the company's renowned specialities.
Dixon International Transport offers its trucks to customers with either their own or the company's colour schemes. Scheduled transport services are provided collecting and delivering all types of goods and produce throughout Ireland and Europe. Dixon is a fully-licensed haulage company with full goods-in-transit insurance and liability cover. All trucks are fitted with mobile phones and a state-of-the-art satellite tracking system to ensure complete customer peace of mind. A tracking device has also been installed in all trucks, allowing them to be tracked in real time at the touch of a button.
Since the current MD re-ignited the family business in its present guise just over a decade ago, Dixon International Transport has grown annually, hand in hand with its customers. With increased staff numbers, an expanding fleet, and new warehousing facilities both here in Ireland (30,000 sq ft in Dublin) and in Belgium (a 20,000 sq ft warehouse / depot in Geel), this company is clearly on an upward trajectory.
"We're still holding our own and moving forward," says Michael. "If things stay the same, we'll be happy enough."
It's the same with the Meath footballers. If they continue to perform as they did in '09, then the team at Dixon International Transport will not be complaining. "I was very happy with the Meath team in 2009," Michael concludes. "They did better than I expected and this team seems to have a decent future. They gave a good effort against Dublin in Leinster and they got better with each game when they cam through the back door. There's plenty there to build upon."
We also have a State of the Art warehouse ideally located just off the E313 motorway at Geel in Belguim. This provides us with ease of access for deliveries and collections around central Europe. The warehouse is fully equipped with pallet racking and loading bays for careful and precise handling of customers goods.
