MFL: Skryne win by a neck
March 18, 2010

Skryne's Bryan Davis
Skryne 4-10
Ballinlough/Inny Gaels 1-17
The Skryne minor team got their league season off with a narrow win over an excellent Ballinlough/Inny Gaels combination in Skryne on a sunny Saint Patricks day morning.
A number of late withdrawals caused some disruption to the shape of the side but this was worked out as the match progressed.
The sides were well matched and were never far apart, scores were level on more than one occasion. Skryne minor debutant Neil Burke got the opening point to settle his side down. The opposition with the help of the breeze gave an exhibition of point scoring in the first half to finish with a goal and ten points and only one wide.
Skryne called on the old regulars who with a minimum of possession grabbed vital goals. Liam Toland was first off the mark with a good finish from close in to find the net, Bryan Davis added another with a strong run from midfield while Ian Gillette kicked two long range points. Bryan Davis added another point while Liam finished off the half with another goal to bring the sides level at the break.
The Skryne defence had a rather stressful first half and did not settle until Paul McGoldrick moved to fullback and James Storm to the wing.
( H.T) Skryne (3-4) Ballinlough/Inny Gaels (1-10).
Skryne had a more settled look in the second half and had the character to keep their neck's in front to the final whistle. The opposition kicked eight more points and could not miss but did not trouble John McAuley's net for the half.
Skryne scorers for the half were points from Neil Burke, Bryan Davis, Paul Bannon, David Burke and Ian Gillette. Liam Toland who by his own account had a bad day added another two points.
Score of the half came from Ian Gillette who found the net from close range. Supporters, management, team mates and the opposition alike were closing their eyes for a blast as Ian pulled the trigger only to see a deft chip to the net.
Joseph Jordan was back to his best and was the most consistent Skryne player throughout the match and well done to Donal Ryan on his debut as a second half sub.
