Ladies: Skryne too strong for Tones

March 18, 2010
Skryne 7-10
Wolfe Tones 3-9

Skryne Ladies' first league match of the year was a successful one as they overcame a tough match against Wolfe Tones.

The first half was very competitive with both teams eager from the start. Wolfe Tones started off the better with 2 goals straight from the off but Skryne responded well with a brilliant point from Laura Bowens ta get Skryne off the mark.

The girls in blue' battling paid off when a break from midfield from Alisha Jordan resulted in her scoring a goal after great work from the Skryne defenders in the first place.

Skryne kept up the pressure on Wolfe Tones with terrific pressure from the back from Annie Ryan and Clare Morley allowing the midfield and forwards to get the upper hand on the Wolfe Tones defenders. Ruth Moore was showing well for the ball and laying it off perfectly for Ashling Bowens running through the centre on numerous occasions.

Another break from the defence from Orla Cragie ended with the ball in the back of the net again as she gave the ball to Ashling Bowens who found her sister in the full forward line who in turn gave a perfectly waited ball to Alisha Jordan running through the centre to score another goal.

Alisha then added another 2 points to her tally, oneof them after running on to a lose ball in the middle of the pitch and scoring from 35 meters out. Although going in at the break a point down the girls in blue fought back brilliantly in the second half with the defenders not letting Wolfe Tones have any easy scores.

Gillian O Sullivan was a rock at full back not allowing any easy scores and with Kayleigh Farrell's workrate at 100% it made it easier for Skryne to apply the pressure needed to sucure a vital win.
Laura Bowens was on fire in the second half scoring 3 smashing goals past the Wolfe Tones helpless keeper. Ashling Bowens added another goal and 4 points to her tally and terrific display. Ashling's ability to srore long range points is priceless to the Skryne attack.

Ruth Moore was pointing from very difficult angles all night and will be very important to Skryne this year. Annie Ryan was not letting the ball by her in defence which made it easy on the forwards and midfield to push on and get the scores they needed .

In the end winning 7-10 to 3-9 after fantastic team work throughout the team proved to much for the visitors. The girls will progress on and hopefully keep up the brilliant work they offered up last night.

Best on the day were: Annie Ryan, Ashling Bowens, Laura Bowens , Alisha Jordan and Kayleigh Farrell.
