Meath camogie AGM
December 01, 2008
Meath Camogie held its Annual General Meeting on Monday evening the 24th November 2008 in Trim Castle Hotel.
The outgoing Chairperson Christy Mangan welcomed everyone to the Camogie convention, and outlined in his report the dedication and work that the fixture committee have made to they improvement of Camogie within Meath, new competitions were introduced again this year and the majority of fixtures went ahead without any problems. He also thanked all that helped organise two Camogie Summer Camps, this was a first for Meath Camogie to run camps and both were a great success. He thanked all clubs on the efforts they the put in with their clubs, congratulating them on winning their respective competitions and also Ratoath club for their excellent win at Feile in Portlaoise this year.
In relation to the County teams he stated the past year was a memorable one for those associated with Meath Camogie . The under age teams progressed well within their respective competitions The County U14 reached The Leinster Semi-final , County U16 winnig the Connaught Blitz.
The County Junior teams preparations for honours began in November 2006 under the guidance of John Davis And Selectors Valerie Curtis, Anton O'Neill & Darina Smith. The won Division 4 of the National League and this win was greeted with a feeling of relief rather than satisfaction after the previous year's losses. The victory seemed to be the catalyst for the rest of the season and the county team contested the All Ireland final in August against Roscommon. This game attracted a large number of fans as the league win had heightened expectations. Eventually our ladies won the day by just one point and the relief on the faces of all involved was palpable. At long last Meath Camogie had received due recognition for all the work and dedication put in by so many people over many decades. I have no doubt that the memories of that day will last for years with all involved.
The chairperson also congratulated to each of our Greenstars on winning their awards and special congratulations to Jane Dolan on becoming the second person from Meath to be nominated for an All Star Award.
2008 has been a special year for Meath Camogie and with further effort will prove to be the keystone for future success.
He also acknowledged the work of his fellow County Board Officers, the sponsored received from Bovale Developments, Aston Flooring & The Friends of Meath. Without their generous support, we would not have had our success to date.
He also thanked referees for officiating at games during the year. It had special word of thanks for John Davis, for the professionalism and commitment he has given to Camogie in Meath without his contribution we would have achieved the National league title & All Ireland Nancy Murray Cup and with further work his believes Meath Camogie will achieve senior status at Inter County Level. There are a number of areas in which the game has progressed well during the season and it is recognised that there is still an amount of work to be completed.
He concluded by stated that he had been privileged to work with officers who have worked tirelessly for Meath Camogie and that he was lucky to become Chairperson when the Junior County Team won a number of trophies and this will undoubtedly encourage younger players to wear the County jersey into the future.
