Double Dunboyne delight

November 25, 2008
Dunboyne claimed double titles in Ashbourne on Sunday 23rd November when they captured the Under 13 & Under 21 Championships defeating Kiltale on both occasions. Although both games went down to the wire it was the strength of the Dunboyne players that helped them over the final hurdle. The winners of the Under 13 Championship go on to represent Meath in Feile next year. Dunboyne 2-2 Kiltale 2-0 Dunboyne were first on the score board with a goal from a free by Lisa Carroll in the second minute, this gave them the advantage straight away. and it was not until the 15th minute that Caoimhe Curran popped over a well taken point from play. Kiltale full back Aoife Slevin defended well throughout, and Aine Kennedy impressed up front. Kiltale got more into the game in the second half and gave Dunboyne a run for their money bringing the margin down to 2 points, and could have clinched the title close to the end. Dunboyne had a very strong wind on their backs in the first half, but this did not seem to help things as Kiltle had the edge on most occasions. It was the outstanding performance of centre half back Aoife Thompson & player of the match, that certainly gave Dunboyne their second U21 title. Kiltale were on the losing side for their third final this year, but that does not take from the selection of talented players on their side. With Alanna Madden & Sheila Courtney defending well and Fiona Madden, Louise Donoghue and Jane walsh working hard throughout the game. Dunboyne had a battle on their hands to keep them at bay. Sinead hackett attacked the Kiltale defense with some fine solo runs which produced 2 points. Emma Doherty Aine Keogh & Fiona O'Neill gave imprssive displays.
