O'Brien names selectors

November 18, 2008
Former Meath stars Robbie O'Malley and Donal Curtis have been confirmed as new football manager Eamonn O'Brien's two selectors. The pair were ratified as part of O'Brien's management team at a county board executive meeting last night, meaning Navan O'Mahony's manager Sean Kelly, who had been widely tipped for a selector's role, will not be part of the new set-up. Both players were double All-Ireland winners during their playing careers. O'Malley was part of the teak-tough Meath team that won back-to-back All-Irelands in 1987 and '88, while Curtis tasted Sam Maguire Cup success in 1996 and '99. A former Meath captain, O'Malley was involved with the county under 21 management set-up a few years ago. Colm Brady, a member of the 1996 team and a selector for one year with O'Brien under Sean Boylan in 2003, will take over the training responsibilities. Trials are expected to start next weekend.
