IFC: A fair result in Kilmainham

These teams last met in the Corn na Boinne back in February  with Drumbaragh recording a three point win played out in adverse weather conditions.

Both  teams went into this game needing a win to make any headway in the championship. Drumbaragh needed a 10 point victory to avoid the play offs and Rathkenny needed a favour from Bective with their game versus Trim to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stages, also knowing heavy defeat could send them into the playoffs.

This game started at a blistering pace with Rathkenny and Drumbaragh going toe to toe from the first whistle, with Drumbaragh hitting the first score of the game in the 3rd minute from play. Rathkenny hit back immediately with a nice score from Jack Gore from play and a goal from Keith Curtis shortly after. Both teams exchanged scores with Jack Gore on target again for the Raths with another fine score from play sending the teams in at 1-02- 0-02 at the first tae break. 

Rathkenny came out quickest and enjoyed a good spell of possession however couldn’t take advantage kicking three wides in quick succession. Drumbaragh registered the next two scores of the game with two quick fire points on 22 and 24minutes to put a point between the teams. Rathkenny returned the favour straight away winning the returning kickout and moving the ball swiftly up to Will Gore who raised the green flag for the second game in a row putting daylight between the teams again. Yet again Drumbaragh hit back with two goals of their own to send both teams in at the half way mark 2-02- 2-04 in Drumbaragh’s favour.

The second half took a similar pattern to the first with both teams going at it hammer and tongs from the restart with Drumbaragh hitting the first score on 32minutes to edge into a 3 point lead, however yet again Rathkenny hit back with three unanswered scores from Jeaic Timmons, Keith Curtis (both from play) and Caolach Halliagan from a free on 37minutes to bring the game level. Drumabaragh hit back with their third goal of the game 2 minutes later after a mix up in the Rathkenny defence to put three between the teams again. The remainder of the game was played out with both teams exchanging points with Caolach Halligan (4) Keith Curtis(1) Jeaic Timmons (2) leaving the game all level at full time, a fair result for both teams.

Best for Rathkenny were: 

Ross Gore- Ross broke up a lot of opposition attacks and always gave an option on the overlap with countless possessions throughout the game.

Keith Curtis- The marks man kicked 1-02 on the day and caused havoc in the Drumbaragh defence throughout the game.
