Conor Gaffney gains possession for St. Michaels against St. Pauls during the Meath Premier FC game at Carlanstown

St. Michaels 1-10, St. Pauls 0-09

St. Michaels came out on top against St. Pauls in the final quarter of this well contested Premier FC group B game which was played in ideal conditions in Carlanstown on Sunday at noon.

St. Pauls raced into an early 3 point lead in the opening five minutes but try as they might they could only manage one further point for the remainder of the half. Top scorer for St. Michaels, Kevin Cassidy opened the account for his side with a point from play and he added a further brace before the short whistle. Captain Ben Tobin also chipped in with a brace of points and Barry McBrearty made it 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

St. Pauls opened the second half with a converted free before Cassidy sent a great effort between the uprights. The visitors put two points away to level the match on 42 minutes however Justin McPhillips split the posts with a great effort to go back in front before St. Pauls levelled the match once again.

The game changer came when a scramble for possession of a loose ball in the St. Pauls goalmouth saw McBrearty toe poke the ball to the back of the net for the games only major at the end of the third quarter. The visitors added a further two points as did St. Michaels with Cassidy and Tobin completing the scoring.

Aidan McDonnell and Co will be pleased with this result from a group of young and experienced players and especially so with the performance from all his young players
