Striking similarities between 2001 and 2020

March 18, 2020

Meath's Trevor Giles and Cormac Murphy celebrate with the 2001 Leinster SFC Cup

The last time the GAA season was suspended was in 2001 because of the outbreak of Foot and Mouth. 19 years later and again all activities are suspended.

Foot and Mouth had huge repercussions at the start of the new millennium but can't compare to the seriousness and terrible situation that Covid-19 has brought us to now.

From a GAA perspective, Meath fans will have a sense of deja vu.

2001

- GAA Season postponed

- Meath relegated from Allianz FL 1

- Leinster final victory over Dublin

- All-Ireland final appearance

2020

- GAA Season postponed

- Meath relegated from Allianz FL 1

- who knows, we can but hope?
