Gaeil Colmcille made light of the difficult conditions to overpower O'Mahonys at Grangegodden on Sunday afternoon

Gaeil Colmcille ....... 1-11
O'Mahonys ............. 0-4

Full-forward Danny McGovern outscored the Navan-men on his own with five points as the more cohesive home side overpowered their opponents.

Gaeil Colmcille coped better with the strong cross wind when recording their fourth win in as many outings in the revamped competition.

Heavy rain preceded the match as well as the closing minutes at which stage the outcome was settled. Overall, the pitch coped well with the latest bout of inclement weather.

The sides were level twice before Gaeil Colmcille put a significant deposit on a final place in the second quarter.

McGovern levelled matters with a well-judged effort in the 17th minute. Shortly after Seamus Mattimoe (free) restored their lead which they took to the finish.

Gaeil Colmcille registered 1-5 without reply in the second quarter

Cormac Mattimoe's 26th minute goal, a first-timed finish when the ball broke to him, boosted last year's runners-up to a 1-6 to 0-2 interval advantage.

Gaeil Colmcille added three points without reply in the third quarter, with Liam Ferguson pointing either side of two more McGovern scores.

The sides shared four scores in the latter stages while O'Mahonys lost Alan Forde to a red card. Craig O'Toole's 47th minute free was the visitors' first score since his 14th minute score earned the Brews Hill side the lead for the only time.

The sides are set to meet again in the opening round of the A FL Division 1 at Paddy O'Brien Park.
