St. Michaels Claire Halpin breaks yo this Kilbride attack

St. Michaels 7-11, Kilbride 3-02

St. Michaels answered every question asked of them after an impressive 7-11 to 3-2 victory over Kilbride in Carlanstown last evening. The winners got off to an ideal start when the ball broke kindly to player of the match Sheena O'Donnell and she went through the Kilbride defence to drive to the back of the net with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

The Kilbride girls replied 2 minutes later with their opening point and they too raised a green flag three minutes later to go one point up. Points followed from O'Donnell and Brioch Meehan before Emma Carolan got in on the goal scoring act. Seona Lynch added another major for the St. Michaels ladies to give them a 7 point cushion on 20 minutes.

Those early green flags allowed the home side to move the ball around with confidence with Seona Lynch, Erin Lynch, Emma McDonnell, Rebecca Farrelly and Claire Halpin thriving in the open ground around the middle third and winning a distributing the ball well among their colleagues up front who in turn made great use of it, while in the backs Ciara Reilly was exceptional, winning everything that came her way with some excellent defending, she was ably assisted by Deirbhile Curran, Nicola Walsh and Anna Cunningham. O'Donnell added a further 1-1 and Lynch added a point before the short whistle for a 4-4 to 2-2 interval lead.

Seona Lynch opened the second half in the best way possible with her sides 5th major, points sailed over from Emma Carolan, Brioch Meehan and Erin Lynch before Sheena O'Donnell bagged two more goals to complete her excellent tally of 4 for her nights work. Emma McDonnell, Meehan and Seona Lynch completed the scoring with a point apiece.
